Lesson 5: Creating an ad campaign
1/9 Enter a name for your campaign
The campaign name is only for you — your customers won’t see it. To make it easy to organize your campaigns, we recommend including the product or service you are advertising and the display region in the title.
2/9 Set up an impression schedule
Here you can set the start and end dates of your campaign and enable time targeting.
Ads are by default set to appear twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and we recommend that you leave this setting as is. Your potential clients can look for your products or services even when your business is closed, and then leave a callback request or contact you during working hours.
3/9 Enter the regions where you want your ads to appear
Click “Edit” in the Geotargeting section.
In the menu that appears, tick the boxes next to the regions where you want your ads to appear in and click “Save.”
4/9 Choose the sites where your ads will appear
You can choose to show your ads on all sites, only on search, or only in ad networks (partner sites in the Yandex Advertising Network and external networks). We recommend choosing “On all sites” for your first campaign.
5/9 Choose a display strategy
Display strategies involve either manual or automatic bid management.
Manual bid management strategies are a good idea if you are ready to check changes to your bids for your keywords several times a day and manually adjust them in a real time.
Automatic strategies take on full control of bid management, using the advertiser’s goals as a guide, e.g. the maximum number of clicks for the budget set. The time saved by using an automatic strategy can be used to create attractive ads, pick out landing pages, and analyze your ROI and other indicators.
6/9 Add negative keywords
Negative keywords are words and phrases that you choose to prevent your ads from appearing. We discussed them in the second lesson.
7/9 Fill out your contact information
Potential customers will see your contact details in your ads and can easily contact you. Smartphone users can tap on your phone number to call you.
8/9 Add a Yandex.Metrica tag
If a Yandex.Metrica tag is installed on your site, click “Add,” enter the tag number and tick the box next to “Tag links for Yandex.Metrica.”
Take note: before you tick the box marked “Tag links for Yandex.Metrica,” make sure that your site correctly displays links with yclid tags. Otherwise, users will not be able to reach your site when they click on your ad. To get tips on how to check your site, click on the question mark to the right.
If you don’t have a Yandex.Metrica tag, disable tag links — you can deal with this group of settings later. We recommend creating a tag and installing it on your site. To find out more about how to use Yandex.Metrica, watch our YouTube video.
9/9 Set up notifications
Notifications by email and text message make it easier to track your campaigns in real time. We recommend adding a phone number if you have not done so already. All Yandex.Direct notifications are free of charge.
We recommend leaving the default settings on the rest of this page.
Now you can move on to the next lesson and the next step: creating your first ad.
- The simplest campaign possible consists of one ad group. In this lesson, we covered campaign-level settings. The campaign will only be ready once an ad group has been created in the next lesson.
- When creating an ad campaign, you must indicate a name and the display regions, select the sites where your ads will appear and a strategy, enter negative keywords, fill out contact information, and enable notifications.
