How a grocery delivery service increased iOS app installations by 233% with Yandex App Campaigns

Discover how the new CPI optimization model helped increase the number of downloads and share of first orders from iOS in the Lenta Online service.
Lenta Online is a delivery service from Lenta, a leading multi-format grocery and FMCG retailer on the CIS market. Shoppers can order delivery using mobile apps for Android and iOS, as well as on the service’s and retail chain’s websites. The target audience primarily consists of women aged 25 to 55.

Lenta Online wanted to expand its iOS app’s audience using Yandex Direct

Advertising is one of the key channels for engaging with users, in addition to the internal mechanisms in the app’s database. One of Lenta Online’s main objectives was to attract new clients.

Artics Agency, a partner, manages the promotion of Lenta Online. The client needed to increase the proportion of the audience that places orders through the app. App Campaigns in Yandex Direct emerged as a key growth driver.

After the introduction of a new CPI optimization model for iOS in Yandex Direct, Artics increased Yandex’s share in Lenta Online’s overall list of advertising sources. This decision was made because, relative to other channels on the iOS platform, Yandex Direct was contributing only one-fifth of the total traffic to the app.

Artics proposed that it would be beneficial for Lenta Online to to go up the sales funnel optimization and focus on increasing installations in order to scale. Yandex App Campaigns was an excellent choice for Lenta Online because it attracts new users who were previously unfamiliar with the app. The «Campaign for iOS 14.5 and higher» option in the strategy settings also lets you take into account changes that may affect mobile app advertisements in Yandex Direct.

To place a mobile app ad in the Campaign Wizard, all you need to do is enter a link to the advertised app. The Wizard suggests all the settings, related terms, texts, and pictures you need along the way. For more detailed information about how the tool works, please refer to Help.

Mobile App Advertising was set up to target branded key queries («Lenta grocery delivery») and promo queries («Lenta promo code») with a wide range spanning all cities where Lenta Online delivery is available.

The ads focused on the audience’s basic needs, service benefits, and discount promo codes.
