Upload files and folders to Yandex Disk

Here's what you can upload to your Yandex Disk:

Files

Maximum size of a single file for uploading to Yandex Disk:

Note

If the file size exceeds the maximum for your plan, try archiving it. If the archive size is still too large, create a multi-volume archive so that the size of each volume doesn't exceed the limit.

Folders

Drag a folder from your computer to the Yandex Disk page or copy it to the Yandex Disk desktop application, and it will automatically upload to the server with all its contents.

Alert

If you don't have an active Yandex 360 plan, but you still want to upload a folder that contains files larger than 1 GB, the folder will be uploaded without such files.

To upload files to a separate folder using a mobile app, create the folder first, and then open it.

Upload from the web interface

  1. Go to the Yandex Disk site.

  2. Open the Yandex Disk folder you want to add files to.

  3. Drag separate files or an entire folder to the page (you can also upload separate files by clicking the Upload button on the left panel or in the context menu).

    Note

You can only upload folders from the web interface with Yandex Browser version 1.7 and later, Google Chrome version 25.0 and later, Opera version 17.0 and later, Mozilla Firefox version 48.0 and later, and Gecko project-based browsers version 48.0 and later. If you use a different browser, upload folders via the Yandex Disk program.

  4. You can continue uploading files in the background by clicking Collapse. You can cancel the upload while the files are still loading: click Cancel uploads.

You can also share a link to the file as soon as it's uploaded.

Upload using the Yandex Disk desktop application

Install the Yandex Disk desktop application and copy the files you want to upload to the folder created by the application.

All new files and folders in the Yandex Disk folder on your computer are automatically uploaded to Yandex Disk during data sync.

Note

Files larger than 1 GB will be saved to Yandex Disk if you have an active Yandex 360 plan.

For more information on the Yandex Disk desktop application, see Yandex Disk for desktop.

Upload from iOS and Android devices

The Yandex Disk mobile apps let you upload files from your phone as well as take photos and save them directly to Yandex Disk.

To upload files from your phone or tablet, install the Yandex Disk mobile app. To upload files through the app, see the sections for iOS and Android.

Copy public files and folders to your Yandex Disk

If someone shares with you a link to a file or folder stored on Yandex Disk, you can copy this file or folder to your Yandex Disk.

Note

However, you won't be able to copy it if the owner of the file or folder has disabled downloads.

To copy a file or a folder, click the link you received and then click the Save to Yandex Disk button. The file or folder will be moved to the Downloads folder on your Yandex Disk.

You can access the Downloads folder from the left panel.

Problems with uploads

A file was marked as a virus

File won't upload

I can't upload a folder to the server

The upload speed is very slow

I see the message "You have reached the file upload limit"

A file was marked as a virus

All files up to 1 GB that you create, upload, or store on Yandex Disk are scanned by the Yandex Disk antivirus software. If the antivirus marks your file as suspicious, it's most likely because the file is indeed infected.

Note

The virus databases of different antivirus programs may vary. This means that one antivirus may fail to find viruses in a file, but another antivirus may flag it.

You can verify a file by yourself with Virus Total, where files are checked by dozens of antivirus products.

File won't upload

An error uploading a file may occur because:

The file size exceeds the limit

More than 1 GB (no active Yandex 360 plan)

If you see an error message "File is too large" when uploading it, make sure the file size doesn't exceed 1 GB. This is the maximum size allowed for uploading if you don't have an active Yandex 360 plan. To upload files from 1 to 50 GB, activate any Yandex 360 plan.

More than 50 GB (with an active Yandex 360 plan)

You can't upload a file of this size. To upload files from 2 to 50 GB faster, use the Yandex Disk desktop application.

You have run out of storage space on Yandex Disk

You or, if you have access to a shared folder, the folder owner may have run out of space on Yandex Disk.

When there's no more space on your Yandex Disk, you can't:

  • Upload new files
  • Share files and create shared folders
  • Open files shared earlier via public links
  • Efficiently work with the files you've uploaded earlier.

To lift the restrictions, purchase additional space or delete the files you no longer need and empty the Trash (files in the Trash also take up space). If necessary, download the files to your computer before deleting them.

Alert

If you don't lift the restrictions, your access to Yandex Disk will be blocked after 44 days.

I can't upload a folder to the server

An error uploading a folder may occur because:

The folder contents were changed during upload

While the folder was uploading, files in the folder were moved or deleted. If another program moves or deletes files, close it. Then try uploading the folder again.

There are files larger than 1 GB in the folder (no active Yandex 360 plan)

Files larger than 1 GB will be skipped, and the folder will be uploaded without them. To increase the file size limit to 50 GB, activate any Yandex 360 plan.

There are files larger than 2 GB in the folder (with an active Yandex 360 plan)

For uploading files from 2 to 50 GB, we recommend using the Yandex Disk desktop application. You can't upload a file larger than 50 GB.

The folder has many nested folders

Try archiving this folder and then uploading the archive to Yandex Disk. You can also upload folders via the Yandex Disk desktop application.

Your browser doesn't support uploading folders

You can upload folders from the web interface only if you're using Yandex Browser version 1.7 and later, Google Chrome version 25.0 and later, Opera version 17.0 and later. If you use a different browser, upload folders via the Yandex Disk program.

You don't have rights to read a folder or file

If you're a computer admin, change the access rights. If you're not a computer admin, you won't be able to upload the folder to Yandex Disk.

The file or folder's name is too long or non-standard

Try archiving this folder and then uploading the archive to Yandex Disk.

The upload speed is very slow

The most common cause of slow download speeds is using proxy servers and extra firewalls (in addition to the standard Windows firewall). We recommend temporarily disabling them when downloading files.

I see the message "You have reached the file upload limit"

This message means that you have uploaded the maximum volume of files to Yandex Disk in the current period, and now you have a temporary upload restriction, which means you can only view and download files. The restriction will be lifted when the next 30-day period begins, and the upload quota is refreshed. For more details, see Monthly file upload limit.
