Fadiko Gogitidze (1916-1940) was a pilot from Adjara, the first woman from the region to become a pilot. She was born into a sailor's family. Despite her parents' expectations, she secretly enrolled in the Tbilisi Flight School and flew an airplane on her own in 1936. Her first difficult flight from Tbilisi to Batumi via the Suram Pass became an event for the entire region — Fadiko was welcomed at the government level, and her successes inspired many Georgian girls. After graduation, Fadiko worked as an instructor at the Batumi Aero Club, training future pilots and parachutists. She died tragically in 1940 during a test flight — she was only 24 years old. In memory of Fadiko Gogitidze, there is a street named after her in Batumi, and one of the classrooms of the Naval Academy bears her name. There is also a monument to Fadiko Gogitidze in the park on May 6 in Batumi, where she is depicted at the moment of takeoff, with an airplane in her hand.
