Launch ads

If you don't want to spend time setting up ads, tracking metrics, and monitoring the progress of your campaign every day, launch a quick start campaign. Add information about your business, and Yandex Direct will use it to create ads, identify your target audience, and select settings based on the unique characteristics and advantages of your business. The algorithm automatically identifies sites with a larger target audience and places ads there. It will allocate your budget only to those ads that bring more customers to your business.

To create a quick start campaign, you need a Russian account, and the object you're advertising must be located within Russia.

You can track your campaign's results in the statistics section.

Create a campaign

Click Add → Campaign. On the Quick start tab, click Proceed to ad creation.

  1. Add a landing page for the ads.

Specify the site page where you want to direct users who clicked your ad. This can be your site's home page, a page listing available discounts or product categories, a request form, or any other page. You can specify only one link in the campaign settings, and it can't be changed later.

You can't launch a quick start campaign with a landing page from Yandex Business or a link to a Telegram channel.

How to launch a quick start campaign without a site

If Yandex Direct finds information on the site, it will fill out the fields automatically. Check everything and make any necessary changes.

  2. Find your company on Yandex Maps and specify it in the ad to reach customers who use Yandex Maps. This way, Yandex Direct will know what organization it needs to advertise and gather useful information from its profile.

  3. Select the desired display regions: all of Russia, a region, or a city.

For example, for a small coffee shop, you can specify the city where you want potential visitors to discover your business. And for an online clothing store, you should specify all regions where you offer delivery.

  4. Explain what you do. Start typing and choose 2–3 activities.

  5. Describe what sets you apart from your competitors and why users should choose your offer over others. Point out your advantages: discounts, offers, delivery options, warranties, and so on.

  6. The Yandex Direct algorithm has already picked several images for your ads from the site, a stock library, or AI-generated options. Feel free to replace them as needed. You can add up to 50 options.

  7. If you don't need to advertise products from your site, disable this option (it's enabled by default).

  8. Select one of the budget options suggested by the system or specify a custom value. The amounts are indicated without VAT.

Budgets are calculated based on the spending statistics of your competitors. The bigger your budget, the more likely you are to win auctions and receive more traffic.

The calculated budget amount is intended for about 30 days. Yandex Direct will spend money within the specified amount. The campaign will run as long as there's money in your account.

  9. Click Create campaign.

When you create a campaign, as an advertising data operator, Yandex submits all your placement data to the Unified Register of Online Advertising (ERIR). Learn more about ad labeling.

If your account balance is equal to or greater than your selected monthly budget, your campaign will start automatically.

The progress bar will show the status of the campaign and your next steps:

    • Awaiting payment: Insufficient funds. The progress bar will show a message that you need to top up your account to continue.

    • Under moderation: Your ads are currently under review.

You'll receive the results of a compliance review against advertising requirements via the email you used to register in Yandex Direct.

    • Active: Your campaign is approved, and your ads are now showing.

What else you can configure

The information you provided is sufficient: your ads are already running. But to make them more effective, you can add more advertising materials, add a tag, and set up campaign goals.

Add more advertising materials

On the campaign page, go to the Advertising materials tab.

  1. Fill out the form.

Under Questionnaire, provide details about your business and its features, such as product range, delivery, and promotions. By answering these questions, you can set up and target your ads more precisely. The questions included in the form depend on your selected business category.

Under Images, you can add up to 50 options:

    • If you specified a category in the form, upload custom images. You can also choose images from your site or from Yandex Business if it has information about your organization.

    • if you didn't specify a category in the form, select appropriate images from your site, the stock library, AI-generated options, or images added from Yandex Business if it has information about your organization. You can also upload your own images.

  2. Add product ads.

Yandex Direct will automatically create ads for products found on your site or uploaded via YML feeds. Examples of ads generated based on information from your site or feed will appear in the preview window.

If you want to advertise specific products, add a filter. The criteria are applied using the AND operator. Products meeting all the criteria are served as ads.

Filters for products from a site include: Site section (offer list URL), Title, and Price.

List of supported filters for each feed type
    • Yandex Market feed: Title (name), Category (categoryId), Price (price), In stock (available), Link (url).

    • Universal feed (CSV): Title (Title), Price (Price), Link (URL).

    • Auto.ru feed: Make (mark_id), Model (folder_id), Car (availability), Link (url), Price (price).

    • Google Ads “Travel” feed (CSV): Title (Title), Category (Category), Link (Final URL), Old price (Price), New price (Sale price).

    • Google Ads “Custom” feed (CSV): Product name (Item title), Product category (Item category), Link (Final URL), Old price (Price), New price (Sale price).

    • Google Ads “Hotels and rentals” feed (CSV): Name (Property name), Location (Destination name), Link (Final URL), Price (Price).

    • Feed in Google Shopping format: Brand (brand), Link (link), In stock (availability), Price (price).

  3. Create additional ads.

You can create up to 20 additional ads either using our neural network or manually:

    • Enter a link to your site page that should open when a user clicks the ad.
    • Compose your ad title and text.
    • Add an image. You can upload it, add it from an ad campaign, or choose a suggested image from the neural network, from the site, or from the image stock. You can add only one image per ad.
    • To add a video, enable the corresponding option. You can upload it, add it from an ad campaign, or choose one suggested by the neural network. You can add only one video per ad.
    • Enable the option and specify the price of the product or service. This way, the ad will be more prominent in comparison to similar ads.
    • Enable the option and specify the ad placement period during which the ad will be served.
  4. Add an action button.

It can appear in ads served on the Yandex Advertising Network or in the organization profile on Yandex Maps. The button draws attention and encourages users to interact with the ad. The button adds one more link to your ad. For example, you can use it to redirect users to a third-party booking form instead of your site.

Under Action button, choose a button text from the list and specify the link.

Set up your campaign goals

On the campaign page, go to the Goals tab.

Under Yandex Metrica tag, you'll find relevant tags added on your site. If you don't have access to a tag, its goals won't load. To get the required access, click Request access.

Select the desired user actions on your site, such as placing an order or making a one-click purchase. This way, Yandex Direct will know what you expect from the ads and will target an appropriate audience. You can add up to 20 goals from different tags on your site.

There are two types of goals:

  • Manual goals are created by the tag owner in Yandex Metrica.

  • Automatic goals are automatically generated by Yandex Metrica, and their list is limited. The names of automatic goals always begins with "Auto-goal": for example, "Auto-goal: Call", "Auto-goal: Form submission", or "Auto-goal: Shopping cart". If automatic goals are disabled on the tag, Yandex Direct will show a notification asking you to enable them.

Yandex Direct imports goals from tags automatically. Edit the list of goals selected by the service: delete the ones you don't need or add new goals. If the tags don't have any goals, the service will suggest adding them in Yandex Metrica.

If Yandex Direct couldn't find a tag on your site, you can't add it manually.

Campaign statistics

A few days after the launch, the Statistics section appears on the campaign page under the Home tab. Using the charts, you can analyze placements based on their click and conversion counts:

  • Clicks represent how many times users clicked your ads in the Yandex Advertising Network and Yandex Search, as well as how many times they opened your company in Yandex Maps.

  • Conversions represent how many advertising sessions on the site resulted in a target action.

You can't view statistics for individual ads: only an overview of the entire campaign is available. The charts show how many times users clicked your ads and completed conversions on your site.

Questions and answers

How do I stop an ad campaign?

You can manually stop your ad campaign one month after its launch. If you want to do it earlier, please contact support.

To stop an ad campaign:

  1. In the upper-right corner of the campaign page, click .

  2. Click Stop.

Can I run ad campaigns for an audience located in the CIS or in other countries?

Automatic ad campaigns can only be launched for Russian audiences.

If I have two or more campaigns, but my balance is insufficient to run all of them, how will my funds be distributed?

First, Yandex Direct will launch the campaign that your current budget can cover. If you have enough funds for each campaign individually, then both campaigns will be launched and continue running until the budget runs out.

For example, suppose you have two campaigns in the “Awaiting payment” status. The first campaign has a budget of 5000 rubles, and the second 4000 rubles.

If you top up your account by 5000 rubles, both campaigns will launch automatically, because your balance is equal to or greater than the budget of both the first and second campaign individually.

Can I change the link to my site after creating a campaign?

No, you can't change the site link in an already created ad campaign. To advertise a different site, create a new campaign.

Can I see a forecast for sessions or conversions?

Advertisers can view a forecast for the number of ad sessions where a user lands to the company site or profile on Yandex Maps and engages with it for a meaningful amount of time (for example, browses the catalog or navigates between pages).

How do I resume impressions for a stopped ad campaign?

To resume impressions, set the campaign budget one more time, then re-launch the campaign.

Will my ad campaign restart if I increase or decrease its budget?

Changing the campaign budget doesn't stop ad impressions.
