The India Gate is both a sacred monument and an open—air "living room" for all residents of Delhi. It is a place where the history, memory and daily life of the city are intertwined. An obligatory item of any program in Delhi is to honor the memory of the heroes, experience the scale of the capital and see how ordinary Indians relax. The Monumental Arch is a 42-meter-high triumphal arch monument built in memory of the 84,000 Indian soldiers who died during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. Official name: All India War Memorial. It was built from 1921 to 1931. The author of the project is British architect Edwin Lachens. The names of more than 13,000 dead soldiers and officers are carved on the walls of the arch.

A landmark place for the local population. In fact, this is a whole memorial complex based on the Arc de triomphe, on which the names of those who died in the First World War and the Anglo-Afghan wars are engraved. The grave of the Unknown Soldier was added to the compound after the end of the Indo-Pakistani War.
