Gebekli Tepe is an ancient temple complex (c. 9600 BC), built long before the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge. On the site you can see monumental T-shaped columns with unique bas-reliefs of animals. I recommend coming to the opening to avoid the midday heat and tourist groups, and be sure to book an official tour or audio guide: without context, it is difficult to assess the archaeological significance of the site.

It's an amazing place. It existed long before Egypt with its pyramids, to visit here means to touch the oldest history on earth. All this is located on a hill about 40 kilometers from the city of Sanliurfa. The site itself consists of excavations and open areas. Excavations are still underway, and far from everything has been discovered. The excavations are covered with beautiful designer awnings and roofs, and walkways with an all-round view are equipped around the excavation. It looks like a maze of mud brick fences bordering flat stone platforms. Each of these sites usually has a pair of T-shaped megaliths, some with bas-reliefs. The complex itself has all the infrastructure and amenities. In general, I like the Turkish approach, unlike the Greeks or Italians, who stupidly spend money without ensuring either the preservation of history or the amenities for visitors.

Many thousand-year-old slabs with primitive drawings of the first people. The origins of human culture. These people left a trail. It needs to be felt. And to think: what will be left of us?
