The Cathedral of St. Etchmiadzin is one of the very first temples in Armenia, whose history began in the 4th century, almost simultaneously with the adoption of Christianity as the state religion of Armenia by Tsar Trdat III. According to tradition, St. Gregory the Illuminator (Grigor Lusavorich) is considered the founder of the cathedral. The cathedral acquired its current appearance in the 7th century. The cathedral is magnificent and it is difficult to overestimate its spiritual, cultural and historical significance.
