Erotica and discrimination

Requirement 8.3.5

Media content includes no pornographic or erotic content, no images of items imitating sex organs and/or references to sexual intercourse, and no materials that offend an individual or a group of people based on sex, nationality, or religion.

Apps and their media content must not be pornographic or offensive based on gender, nationality, or religion. Such games won't be approved for publication. If a published game is found to violate the requirements, it will be removed.

The content requirements for the game are less strict than those for promotional materials. Erotic content can be used within the game if the app does not contain pornography and complies with the service rules and the law, has an age restriction label, and its promotional materials don't contain prohibited erotic content.

Moderation does not allow and removes from the game catalog those games that have:

inappropriate content: explicit content (pornography);
inappropriate mechanics and elements: calls for nudity, stripping mechanics.

It is considered inappropriate if the game contains:

calls for nudity in texts, promotional materials, or on game elements;
undressing mechanics that are not justified by the game genre (for example, games about dressing up are acceptable, where changing outfits is part of the process).

Apps that feature explicit eroticism as key elements in their promotional materials will be removed from the platform or denied publication due to prohibited erotic content.

Moreover, moderators may remove or reject any app if it contains inappropriate content that, while not explicitly prohibited, appears in more than one place. Find more about such instances in the Unacceptable content section. Moderators may approve a game for publication if there is only one instance of suggestive content in all game materials. See the Allowed content section for examples of such games.

Materials with acceptable content may be placed in the catalog.

The moderation principle is shown in the table. Moderators' decisions are color-coded.

Red: The game is rejected for publication.
Gray: The game is approved for publication, because it doesn't focus on eroticism, although it contains some erotic elements.
Green: The game is approved for publication.

Forbidden erotic content

Moderators remove or reject games that contain:

Primary erotic focus: The content is primarily focused on sexual themes or explicit imagery.
Erotic ambience: The game features silhouettes of anthropomorphic characters or intimate body parts against a backdrop of intimate objects, such as a bed or a dating scene.
Explicit erotica. Examples:
- References to sex.
- Censorship: Emojis, black circles, circles marked 18+.
- Sexualized undressing or nudity.
- Content that focuses on overly sexualized characters.
- Images simulating sex organs or mammary glands, as well as their silhouettes.
Erotic clickbait: Erotic icons or promo materials, even if the primary focus isn't erotic.
Erotic content in text blocks: Words and phrases in the game title or description exploit sexual interest, referring to it or to erotic imagery.

Appropriate content

Moderators will approve the game for publication and won't remove it from the catalog if it contains sexualized images, only if there is no direct exploitation of sexual interest, which means the game doesn't contain:

Explicit prohibited erotica
and focus on erotica in general. This is common in games where characters are cartoonish or their appearance is dictated by the genre.

For example, in materials for strategy and RPG games, it's acceptable to use fantasy-based sexualized imagery, provided the game doesn't primarily focus on erotic content.

The text description "aesthetics of the female form" contains subtle suggestions of eroticism, but the accompanying media is neutral.
About the game: "Have you ever dreamed of being the main character in a romance that unfolds in the office of a big company? In this game, you can... 💖 Choose the way you want to look 💖 Fall in love and go on dates	The flushed face and the tight blouse make the woman's image suggestive. However, the text description contains no hints of eroticism, only romance. It doesn't exploit sexual interest.
About the game: "Anime puzzles — dive in and solve all the puzzles! Unlock new characters and complete increasingly difficult levels."	The woman's image is sexualized, but the description remains neutral.
Title: "Battle for the District" About the game: "Battle for the District is a new tactical CCG RPG where you can wage a solo campaign against epic bosses, compete against real people in arenas, tournaments, and clan wars. Acceptable content

Moderation deems media content acceptable if:

It doesn't allude to sex.
It lacks eroticism, or its elements are justified by the game's theme.
The game's context is neutral.

In this case, silhouettes of animated characters, objects, or people are acceptable.

For example, in a dress-up game, characters dressed only in underwear are acceptable (unless it's explicit prohibited erotica), because it's dictated by the app's theme.
