Last Yandex Cup, Last Vacancy for a Champion

Internet, October 1, 2008. Yandex announces the start of registration for the ninth and the last Yandex Cup in Internet search. The winner will take the only open vacancy for participating in the Cup Winners’ Cup next year.

The ninth Yandex Cup does not offer any pecuniary prizes. "It took us quite some time to find a way to tell real sportsmen from gold diggers, and then we made this decision,” says Yandex Cup detector. “The new champion will be awarded with a chance to challenge previous champions. And it’s worth more than material things”.

The Cup’s first round tournaments, open for everyone, will be held from October 8 to October 30. The face-to-face finals will take place in Moscow in early December. The winner will take home the Cup, the title of “The Person Who Found Everything” and the right to participate in the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Yandex held the first Open Russian Cup in Internet search in April 2001. In July 2003 Yandex published a methodology for online search competitions. Since then, more than 80 Yandex-licensed search competitions were held in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, as well as in Israel, Norway and the US.
