Ads in Telegram channels (β)

With the Yandex Advertising Network, you can have Yandex Direct ads displayed as advertising posts and get paid for impressions. Advantages of channel monetization with the Yandex Advertising Network:

  • Large database of Text & Image ads from Yandex Direct.
  • Verified ads only: each ad is moderated before it is served.
  • Nice design: an ad contains an image or a short video, text, and links to the advertiser's site, which makes conversion more likely.
  • Flexible impression settings: adjust the minimum impression cost, time, and maximum number of posts per week.
  • Embedded labeling: ads have a special “Ad” label and a token in their link, meaning that the ad data will be automatically transmitted to the state register (ERIR) via the Yandex advertising data operator (ADO).

Alert

At the moment, monetization in Telegram is available only to partners registered with the Yandex Advertising Network as residents of the Russian Federation.

How it works

You add a channel to the Yandex Advertising Network and grant administrator rights to the Yandex Advertising Network bot. If the channel passes moderation, the bot posts advertising messages on the channel according to the specified settings.

Ads available for display on Telegram are selected from the Yandex Direct database based on your channel's category and CPM strategy. An ad may contain:

  1. Image or video.
  2. Clickable title and a call to action with a link to the advertised site.
  3. Text.
  4. “Ad” label.
  5. Link to advertiser information.

Channel requirements

At the moment, we only work with Telegram channels: you can't connect chats to the Yandex Advertising Network. To enable monetization with the Yandex Advertising Network, make sure your channel meets the general resource requirements according to the Rules of participation in Yandex Advertising Network and the following conditions:

  • Channels must be public.
  • They must be created more than 3 months ago.
  • They must have at least 2000 subscribers.
  • The last post was made less than 2 weeks ago.
  • Each post gets at least 500 views in 48 hours.
  • The majority of the channel’s audience is in Russia, and the channel content is mostly in Russian.
  • The channel is active, and its content doesn't violate Russian law or the Rules of participation in Yandex Advertising Network.

How to enable ads

  1. Go to the Telegram ads tab and click Add channel.

  2. Specify the settings:

    • Name: Enter the channel name.

    • Link: Add a permanent link to the channel formatted as https://t.me/channelname. An invitation link will not work.

    • Channel topics: Select the appropriate topics from the list.

    • Maximum of advertising posts per week: Select the maximum number of ad posts from 1 to 21. A maximum of 3 posts can be displayed per day.

    • Minimum CPM: Set the minimum CPM floor in rubles.

    • Show schedule: Select the time intervals (slots) when you want the bot to post ads. Only one ad can be displayed within a one-hour slot. When you choose more than three slots per day, ads appear in a random order in any of them, but no more than three ads per day. To display one or two ads per day, select one or two slots.

      When you set up direct placements through Adfox, ads appear in the slots you specify in the schedule. These ads take priority over ads from the Yandex Advertising Network.

    • Login of the channel administrator: Enter a username in @username format.

    • Advertising selection strategy: Use the scale to indicate whether you want ads to be selected based on your channel's topic or ad revenue.

      Available strategies:

      • Highest relevance: Prioritize ads that are most relevant to the channel topic.
      • Moderate relevance: Serve ads based on both subject matter and impression cost, prioritizing those that at least partially match the channel's topic and generate more revenue.
      • Balanced: Maintain a balance between the relevance and revenue of the ads served.
      • Optimal: Serve ads that generate more revenue but may not match the topic of the channel.
      • Maximum revenue: Prioritize ads with a higher impression cost and no topic restrictions.

      Note

      If you opt for a strategy that prioritizes relevance to the channel's topic, you may see fewer ad posts.

      How we select ads for channels:

  3. Click Next.

  4. In the window that opens, wait for the Yandex Advertising Network to select a bot for your channel. Follow the link to the bot.

  5. Open the bot description. Click Add to Group or Channel and select your channel.

    If you only see the Add to Group button

    Go to the mobile app or do the following in the desktop version:

    1. Copy the bot name from the Username field.
    2. Go to your channel.
    3. Click Manage ChannelAdminsAdd Admin.
    4. Paste the bot name that you copied into the search bar.
  6. A window with permission settings opens: allow the bot to post messages in the channel and assign it administrator rights.

  7. In the Yandex Advertising Network interface, click Complete.

You'll see the added channel with a unique Page ID in the Telegram ads tab. The channel will be submitted for moderation after you add the bot.

The bot will start posting ads in the channel only after it passes moderation.

Channel moderation

Usually, the channel moderation process takes less than a day. However, it may take longer in some rare cases.

A message with moderation results will appear in the Notifications tab of the Yandex Advertising Network interface. We'll also send a message to the email address that you used to register with the Yandex Advertising Network.

  • If the channel passes moderation, its status changes to Active and ad posting starts.

  • If the channel fails moderation, check why it was rejected. If possible, fix the errors and resubmit the channel for moderation.

    The channel requires users to perform additional actions to gain access to its content

    To subscribe to the channel and view its content, you need a confirmation from the channel administrator.

    The channel doesn't have any content

    • There are no posts in the channel
    • More than two weeks have passed since the last post

    1 day after rejection.

    How do I apply?

    1. Open the Telegram ads tab.

    2. In the list, click Return to moderation next to the name of the channel that you want to return to moderation. The button will be available 1 day after your last rejection.

    Violation of the rules for enabling a bot for the channel

    The bot wasn't added to the channel or it has no administrator rights

    2. In the list, click Return to moderation next to the name of the channel that you want to return to moderation. The button will be available 1 day after your last rejection.

    Violation of ad post placement terms

    The channel region isn't supported

    Ads are posted only in Russia

    2. In the list, click Return to moderation next to the name of the channel that you want to return to moderation. The button will be available 30 business days after your last rejection.

    The channel language isn't supported

    Only channels in Russian are supported.

    The channel doesn't meet the Rules of participation in Yandex Advertising Network for other reasons

    According to the Rules of participation in Yandex Advertising Network, Yandex reserves the right to reject any resource, including if:

    • The channel's topic doesn't meet the requirements (see the Rules of participation in Yandex Advertising Network).
    • The channel posts political or military-related content.
    • The partner renames their channel or makes it private.
    • The partner uses fraudulent methods for getting views, clicks, and subscribers.
    • Nothing has been posted on the channel for a long time.

    In some cases, the channel may not be allowed to be resubmitted for moderation.

In addition to approving new channels that have just applied to join the Yandex Advertising Network, Yandex may also perform re-moderation of existing channels. If re-moderation reveals serious violations, the partner's channel or account may be blocked. Learn more about blocking accounts

Revenue and statistics

You get paid for viewable impressions. Viewable impressions are views of a post on Telegram that occur within 48 hours of posting an ad.

A detailed report with ad statistics is available in the Statistics tab of the Yandex Advertising Network interface. To generate a report on Telegram ads:

  1. Select the report dates.

  2. Filter statistics by channel in one of the following ways:

    • In the Filters field, add App ID / Site ID and enter the channel ID.
    • In the Filters field, add App name / Site name and enter the channel name.

    Tip

    If you want to view summary statistics for multiple channels, select Resource type → Telegram in the Filters field.

  3. Add groupings — for example, by day or by channel name/ID.

  4. Select the required metrics. All the key statistical metrics are available for Telegram ads:

    • Requests
    • Served impressions
    • Viewable impressions / Impressions
    • Match rate
    • Fill rate
    • Show rate (viewable) / Show rate
    • Revenue
    • CPMV / eCPM
    • Viewable impressions (Yandex Direct)
  5. Click Create report.

Editing channels

To edit the channel or ad post settings:

  1. In the Yandex Advertising Network interface, open the Telegram ads tab.
  2. In the line with the channel name, click   → Edit.
  3. Make your changes and click Save.

Disabling ads in channels

You don't need to remove the bot from your channel to suspend impressions. In the Yandex Advertising Network interface, click   → Stop impressions in the list of channels. You can resume impressions by clicking Start impressions.

To fully archive the channel:

  1. In the channel settings, remove the Yandex Advertising Network bot from the list of administrators.

  2. Archive the channel:

    1. In the Yandex Advertising Network interface, open the Telegram ads tab.
    2. In the line with the channel name, click   → Archive.
