Ads in videos

Video search ranking mechanisms are configured to search for the highest quality and relevant results. This also applies to ads in videos. Yandex evaluates ads using automatic algorithms. Preference is given to video files without intrusive ads.

Ad videos and banners

Ad inserts (for example, pre-roll or pop-ups) and banners that cover the entire player interfere with viewing the video. To make ads less intrusive, observe the following conditions:

• Limit the maximum ad length to 60 seconds.
• Provide an option to disable ads after a maximum of 20 seconds of viewing.
• Set a timer showing the time remaining until the ad can be turned off, as well as a timer counting down the time until the ad ends.
• Provide an option to turn off the ad's sound.
• Limit the maximum number of ads for videos shorter than 20 minutes: one insert at the beginning of the video and one insert at the end of the video. The ad can't be longer than the main video.
• Limit the maximum number of ads for videos longer than 20 minutes to three inserts: at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the video.
• Limit the length of the first ad to 30 seconds. Provide an option to disable this ad 5 seconds after it starts.
• You can't use hidden click areas that redirect users to another site without their consent. For example, when the user clicks on the player area or the controls. The click area must explicitly look like a link, an ad banner, or a special logo.
• Make sure that there are no controls in the ad that mislead users (for example, a Close icon that opens more pop-ups).
• Implement passing the adShown event into the parent frame.
• Specify the appropriate category for adult ads (18+).

Text ads

Even if a text ad message in the player doesn't block viewing, it still makes it harder to watch. To make text ads less intrusive, we recommend you observe the following rules:

• Limit the maximum ad block area to 15% of the internal video player area.
• Provide the option to disable ads at any time.
• Make sure that there are no controls in the ad that mislead users (for example, a Close icon that opens more pop-ups).
