Search settings
To find the information you need, enter your query in the search bar. If you want to narrow down the results, use advanced search filters (the icon to the right of the search bar) or the query language when entering your query.
To make it more convenient to search for information and use search results, customize Yandex search.
- After you log in to your Yandex account, your settings are linked to your Yandex ID. The settings data is also saved on your PC (in the cookies file) and remains valid until you change it.
- The settings are also linked to a specific browser: if you change the browser, Yandex search will have to be set up again. You will also need to update your settings if you delete all cookies (for example, when reinstalling your browser or operating system).
- If your computer is used by several people or has several browsers installed, you can configure settings for each user and browser separately.
To go to settings, scroll down the search results page and click Settings. You can also configure your search settings on this page.
Settings
Interface language and appearance
On the General tab of the settings page, you can change the interface language and choose a search page theme: always light, always dark, or one that matches your operating system and browser settings (default option).
Suggestions and search history
To suggest your favorite websites and show personalized search results, Yandex uses the history of your searches and website clicks from search results. To disable suggestions, on the General tab, find History in hints and disable Show tips.
If the setting isn't available, log in to Yandex. Suggestions based on your search history will no longer be shown.
You can also clear your search history. To do this, click Clear history. The history will be deleted within a few minutes.
Location
Specify your region on the Location tab to get more relevant search results. By default, your location is determined automatically.
Home page
On the Home page tab, you can customize the appearance of the home page.
Search results
You can exclude documents that contain obscene language or sexual content from search results. Go to the Search tab and select your preferred mode under Filter search results:
-
Family mode: sexual content is completely excluded from search results (even if the query is intended to find adult sites).
-
Moderate filter: sites with sexual content are excluded from search results unless the query is explicitly aimed at finding such resources (default search mode).
-
No filter: search results include all the documents found by the query, including web resources with sexual content.
You can also set up safe search using these resources:
- Yandex DNS.
- Hosts file. In the file, you need to enter the Yandex IP address for family search mode.
See Filter adult content and Family search mode for organizations to learn more.
Advertising
On the Advertising tab, you can manage ad personalization. By default, ads are served based on your location and interests. This helps ensure you only see ads that are relevant to you.
If you prefer to see a broader selection of ads, turn off the options you don't need.
How Yandex arranges search results
Yandex analyzes how well the found document corresponds to the user's query. The more useful the answer, the higher it is on the search results page.
Results are ranked automatically. Yandex takes into account the ease of site navigation, its structure, the quality of texts, advertising clutter, and other site properties.
