Search options

Save time by using SmartBox, voice search and page search to quickly find your answers. In Yandex Browser for Mobile, you can also search for information using images.

Note

You can enable family search to make sure there's no inappropriate content in search results. To learn more, see the Filter adult content section in FAQ about Yandex Search.

SmartBox

The SmartBox is the main element in Yandex Browser that you use to enter site addresses and search for information. The SmartBox is found in the upper part of the browser.

When you're browsing online, the SmartBox may disappear to allow more space for viewing websites. If you want to see it again, tap the bottom edge of the browser.

Note

You can also add the SmartBox to the Android notification bar. To do this, open Settings, go to Notifications, and turn on Show Search in the notifications bar.

To open the notification bar, on most devices you need to swipe down from the top edge of the screen.

Enter a search query or go to a website

  1. Use the SmartBox to enter search terms, a URL, or the name of a website (you can use your voice or the keyboard to enter searches).

  2. Tap the enter button on the virtual keyboard.

Yandex Browser automatically detects whether to show you a website or search results.

: Clear the SmartBox.

: Refresh the page.

: Go to Yandex;

Search suggestions

: Popular searches (tap a search to put it into the SmartBox).

: Similar searches (tap a search to put it into the SmartBox).

: Sites that you have already visited.

: Popular sites.

Voice input can be used for both search queries and website addresses. The voice search language is set automatically to match the system language on your tablet. To start a voice search, tap on the right side of the SmartBox.

Note

Voice search is available in Russian, English, Ukrainian, Kazakh, and Turkish. If one of these languages is the default language of your tablet, Yandex Browser will automatically use it for voice search. If you use a different language on your tablet, voice search will automatically switch to English.

Change the voice search language

  1. Tap  → Settings.

  2. Go to the Search section.

  3. Tap Voice search language.

  4. Chose your voice search language.

Find on page

  1. Tap → Find on page.

  2. Enter a word or phrase to search for.

The browser shows you all the matching words on the page. To move through the search results, use and . To close the search, click on the left.

Text search

To get more information about something:

  1. Select a word or a phrase:

    • Tap and hold to select a word.

    • To select multiple words, tap the first word and then move the slider to the right.

  2. Tap Find in Yandex in the bar above the SmartBox.

The result will be shown in Yandex search results.

Image search

You can use Yandex Browser to search for similar images or take a photo of an object and find out what it is. Image search uses Yandex computer vision algorithms. The search results will show exact copies of your image and similar images. For example, similar images may be photos of kittens of the same breed.

To find images similar to:

  1. Tap and hold an image on a web page.

  2. In the context menu, tap Image search.

The search results open in Yandex Images.

  1. In the SmartBox, tap .

  2. Select the Search mode.

  3. Take a photo with the camera of your tablet or select an image from the photo gallery (in the bottom right corner, tap the round icon with a thumbnail of the last photo).
