Traffic quality and fraud prevention

Accounting for fraud in statistics

You can view the number of filtered clicks and impressions in reports at the campaign level:

  1. Go to the Reports tab.
  2. Select Campaigns (IMS) from the list.
  3. Set a period and click Build a report.

The report contains columns broken down by types of invalid traffic: GIVT (general invalid traffic) and SIVT (sophisticated invalid traffic).

  • Filtered clicks (IMS): The number of invalid clicks at the campaign level.
  • Filtered impressions (IMS): The number of invalid impressions at the campaign level.
  • Filtered viewable impressions (IMS): The number of invalid viewable impressions at the campaign level.

These indicators may change over time if certain clicks or impressions are invalidated by future filters. Learn more about the report on ad campaigns with IMS.

How to prevent fraud

  • Analyze your traffic and site audience.

  • Don't click ads that you have placed on your site.

  • To prevent unauthorized use of your embed code on other sites, enable the option Dynamic definition by REFERER.

  • If you've detected a suspicious traffic source, block it by its IP address or URL.

  • If you are going to buy traffic, ask yourself the following questions:

    • What resources are you going to place your site's ads on and what are their traffic sources?
    • How can your ad placements be checked on these resources?
    • How does the traffic cost compare to other providers? If the price is below the market, try to find out why your provider offers such a price.
    • Ask the provider to give you detailed reports on their traffic sources.

    Alert

We don't recommend getting help from individuals or companies that promise to increase your CTR, click count, revenue, and so on. They might use prohibited methods and act without your knowing or consent. Usually, such individuals will ask you to share a part of the revenue that you would earn from their activities.

How to analyze traffic

Enable Yandex Metrica

Adfox partners in Yandex Metrica can use special reports that allow you to identify the most profitable traffic sources, down to a search query. Learn more about Adfox reports in Yandex Metrica

Depending on the source, you can classify your traffic into several types:

  • Organic: Direct traffic by your site URL.
  • Affiliated: Clicks on links placed on affiliated partner sites.
  • Referral: Clicks attracted by ads or newsletters.
  • Search: Traffic from search engines.
  • Paid: Traffic attracted for money or other benefits that the traffic provider or site users receive directly.

If you notice sharp spikes of invalid traffic, first check your paid traffic sources:

1. Contact your traffic source and find out how users land on your site.

2. If the traffic source is suspicious, stop cooperating with it.

3. Report the source to Adfox support.

Use Yandex Webmaster

Yandex Webmaster gives you insights on keywords that users enter to find your site. You can also use this service to track dynamics of your site's organic traffic compared to other similar sites and select search queries that can increase your site traffic.

Build traffic segments for your site

This way you can determine the audience of your site: from which regions, from which devices, and for what purposes users usually visit your site. To do this, use additional reports in Adfox or Yandex Metrica.

If you've noticed unexplainable anomalies in statistics, check your traffic sources. If needed, block the suspicious traffic source and report it to Adfox support.

Traffic analysis lets you identify sources of invalid traffic and provide insights on how to optimize the site. Detailed traffic analysis helps you increase revenue: advertisers trust sites with high-quality traffic and want to pay more for ads placed on them.

How to improve traffic quality

  • Think about your users rather than search engines. Your site and all its pages or elements must be useful for your users. This way you can attract more users and, only as a result of this, you can improve your position in search results.

  • Create resources offering original content or services. This attracts more users and helps you build a loyal audience. Remember that users come to your resource for content, not ads.

  • Think carefully about navigation and the design of your site. Help users easily find information or do what they came for.

  • Increase your site load speed. If your site loads slowly, the user may leave for another resource.

  • Be honest. If you attract users with queries that your site cannot adequately answer, you might lose them as easily.

  • Pay attention to ad block design. The user should be aware that by clicking on an ad block, they might leave for an advertiser's site rather than internal pages of your site or app.
