Each monetizer to be connected has a separate contract for bidding using Header Bidding technology.
An ad unit is created in the monetizer's personal account.
You can set up monetization either through the Monetization section or manually. Both of these methods are covered below.
Setup through the Monetization section
The setup consists of three steps: enabling the monetization platform at the account level in Monetization, adding it to the desired placements, and installing the configuration script. Campaigns and banners are created automatically.
Step 1. Connecting monetization platforms at the account level
Go to Monetization from the main menu and select the Parameters tab. Depending on the monetization platform, connect it in the appropriate list:
External monetizers
Adfox Header Bidding monetization platforms
The Connecting external monetizers list shows all available monetization platforms. Each of them shows the type of integration:
Yandex Header Bidding: Integration via Yandex's own solution.
Prebid.js: Standard open-source library for Header Bidding.
Find the desired monetization platform in the list or using the search bar (you can filter by status or type).
Click next to the monetization platform and select Placements. Select the sites, sections, and placements where you want to run ads and click Apply.
Enable the option in the Connected column next to the monetization platform and click Save below.
Warning
Once you're done, install the configuration script on your site — without this step, monetization won’t work.
In the Connecting Adfox Header Bidding monetizers list, click Add and specify the unique ID of the monetization platform.
Click next to the monetization platform and select Placements. Select the sites, sections, and placements where you want to run ads and click Apply.
Enable the option in the Connected column next to the monetization platform and click Save.
Step 2. Adding monetization platforms to placements
Go to Inventory from the main menu and select a site. Find and select the desired placement by clicking Placements under the site name or Sections → Placements.
Go to the Parameters tab.
In the Header Bidding Monetizers section, add the desired monetization platforms. You can also clear the list or click Copy all to quickly copy monetizers to another placements.
Warning
If you see an exclamation mark next to a monetization platform:
Activation requires signing a contract with this monetization platform.
The platform was connected earlier but isn't active. To activate the platform:
Click next to the monetization platform and select Placements.
Select the sites, sections, and placements where you want to run ads and click Apply.
Click Save.
Step 3. Preparing a configuration script
Go to Monetization → HB configurator.
Configure the parameters for each placement.
Click Generate and copy the script.
Install the script on the site, adding it to the <head> tag.
To monetize with Header Bidding, first configure banner types and templates, determine placements, and add ad campaigns and banners. Make sure that a link to the monetization platform is traced for the template and ad campaign.
How it works
Step 1. Configuring banner types and templates
Determine the types of banners for placing ads from monetization platforms. If necessary, create new banner types.
Add templates for Header Bidding external monetization platforms to the banner types:
Go to Settings → Banner types → Custom → Nondimensional and click Templates next to the banner type you need.
Click Use preset and add templates for monetization platforms:
HeaderBidding {monetizer name} [context]
For monetization platforms working via Adfox HB, select the Header Bidding Adfox [context] template.
For monetization platforms working via Prebid Header Bidding, select the Header Bidding for Prebid [context] template.
Step 2. Configuring placements, campaigns, and banners
Determine the placements for monetization platforms. If necessary, create new ones.
Select a monetization platform in the External Monetizer parameter.
For monetizers working via Adfox HB, specify the ID of the monetizer's account in Adfox (ownerId). You can find it out from the monetizer or in the monetizer's ad tag.
Example of ownerId in the ad tag
Note
The CPM is set in the monetizer's account. If your account is an Adfox HB monetization platform, you can set separate CPMs for flights and ad placements within your campaign. To learn more, contact the Adfox support service.
By default, your campaign's impression count method will be Impression (IMS). An impression is counted as soon as the image starts getting rendered (for banner ads) or on playback in the ad video player (for video ads). You can't change the impression count method for monetization with Header Bidding.
Once you've added your campaign, you'll see the Placement tab open. Select a site, section, or placement where you want to run your campaign and click Save.
Open the campaign settings, go to the Banners tab, and select the desired banner type. The list will only contain banner types that contain templates for the monetization platform selected in the campaign parameters. If you can't see the banner type in the list, check that the template for this monetizer was added to the banner type. It is enough to add one banner per banner type.
Select the desired template in the Banner contents tab.
In the window with banner parameters, specify its name and click Add.
Banner placement in Header Bidding is managed at the campaign level.
To set up impressions, add the ad placements you need to the campaign placement. The system will automatically distribute banners across available placements depending on their format.
A banner can only be displayed in the placements that were added to the campaign placement. If there's no suitable ad placement, the banner isn't displayed.
How it works
You only need to set up a selection of ad placements in the campaign placement one time. After that, the system will automatically determine which banner is suitable for each ad placement.
For example
Imagine that you have one ad monetization platform, two sites, and two banner formats.
Placement settings:
site-a.com — the 240 × 400 and 300 × 300 formats have been added;
site-b.com — only the 240 × 400 format has been added.
Result:
site-a.com — both banners are displayed;
site-b.com — only the 240 × 400 banner is displayed.
The 300 × 300 banner isn't displayed on the site-b.com site because there's no placement for it in the campaign placement.
Recommendation
Don't create placement settings for each banner individually.
Configure ad placements at the campaign level: the system will automatically distribute banners to suitable placements.
