The fountain, measuring 15 by 26 meters, on the square of the same name and on the boulevard of the same name was created according to the idea of Baron Osman in 1860 by architect Gabriel Daviu. In the center is a bronze figure of the archangel Michael defeating the devil, the work of the romantic sculptor Francis Joseph Dore. Above the columns on the pedestals are sculptures of the four virtues — Prudence, Strength, Justice and Temperance. Water pours from the mouths of two chimera dragons created by Alfred Jacquemart.
