Chichen Itza is one of the most significant archaeological sites in Mexico and the world, an ancient city of the Maya civilization, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and recognized as one of the new seven wonders of the world. El Castillo (Pyramid of Kukulkan) is the main temple dedicated to the god Kukulkan (Quetzalcoatl), the feathered serpent. The pyramid served as a giant calendar. It has 365 steps (by day of the year), 52 panels and 18 terraces. Twice a year, on the days of the spring and autumn equinox, the play of light and shadow creates the illusion of a snake descending the stairs. The Large Ball Field (Jaguar Temple) is the largest ball playing field in Mesoamerica. The teams played using only elbows, knees and hips. It is considered that the captain of the loser (or, according to other versions, the winner) the teams were sacrificed. It has a unique acoustics: a whisper at one end of the field is perfectly audible at the other. The Temple of Warriors and the Group of a thousand columns. Military and administrative complex. It consists of a pyramid surrounded by rows of carved columns that probably supported the roof. El Karakol (Observatory) is an astronomical observatory for observing planets, especially Venus. A circular building with a spiral staircase inside, which gave it its name ("Snail"). The sacred cenote. A natural karst well (cenote), which served as a place of sacrifice to the rain god Chaak. At the bottom of the cenote, archaeologists found gold products, objects made of jadeite and human remains confirming the practice of sacrifice. Chichen Itza was not just a city, but the largest political, economic and religious center of northern Yucatan for almost a millennium (from the VI to the XV century). Its uniqueness lies in the mixture of Maya and Toltec architectural styles, which makes the city a striking example of cultural synthesis in pre—Columbian America.

A place of worship, the hallmark of Mexico. It is best to arrive early, while there are no large crowds of tourists. A very interesting historical place, be sure to take a guide who knows the history of the ancient Maya well. There is a market with souvenirs and very good prices, despite the fact that the place is a tourist destination. In general, it is large-scale and fascinating!

A historical place of worship. When talking about Mexico, the first thing that comes to mind is tequila, then sombreros and the Mayan tribe. The unusual buildings are striking in their fundamentality, architectural design and grandeur. One of the wonders of the world. An extraordinary city founded in the 5th century A.D. A very interesting story, I recommend you to visit with a guide. On the territory, descendants of the Maya tribe sell their needlework (mostly handkerchiefs for $ 2), the height of the inhabitants of this tribe (as well as the descendants) was about 150 cm. You look like a giant against their background)))

It's a fascinating place ... especially when I was a kid, I watched the cartoon "The Road to El Dorado") then you see it all in person! The Mayan pyramid itself and the soccer field (a ball game where you need to hit a ball in a special ring). I recommend you to visit! The territory of the attraction is clean, everything is neat (which cannot be said, for example, about the Egyptian pyramids, where there are huge questions about cleanliness).

It's interesting to visit the capital of a civilization you don't know anything about (movies and cartoons don't count). It is interesting to see something that I have not seen before (the Egyptian pyramids are different). It is interesting to learn about the customs and culture of people from the other side of the globe. Chichen Itza is probably the most popular place on the Yucatan Peninsula. And the most historical thing is the city, founded in 455 and abandoned for an unknown reason in 1195. When the Spaniards came here, the city was already in disrepair. It is interesting to see not only the stunning pyramids (there are many of them on the plains and in the forest), but also other buildings and structures. For example, on the field for "football". For some reason, some guidebooks call this sport football (probably because there was a ball there). The sport, apparently, was more like basketball - you had to throw a small ball into the rings located in the stadium. There are a lot of skulls in the decoration of the city - yes, the Maya loved to behead their enemies. For example, the heads of enemies were impaled on narrow columns in the center of the city. It is hot to walk without a headdress on the flat part; I would also advise taking water - you will need it on a sunny day. Of course, it is better to arrive early, because there will be a lot of tourists (especially groups on buses). And in a place like this, it's better to be alone with eternity for a while.

One of the seven new wonders of the world. A huge territory. Dead heads - murals on the walls. The ball game is an elimination game. The losers were executed. Something that we know so little about and that is incredibly interesting.

Of course, the greatness is amazing! Be sure to take the tour very impressive. I really got into the story of the Maya Indians. There are a lot of tourists. The only thing that is very bad is the lack of trees. It's unbearable to walk through a huge territory in the heat. Hiding behind the slightest shadow from anything.

It's a very beautiful place. The pyramid is smaller than in Egypt, but it's still very, very beautiful. Since you can't climb anywhere, it takes an hour and a half to get around this place completely and take great photos. It is necessary for everyone to visit this place

The place is incredible ⚡️Energy is off the scale The buildings are amazing And the central pyramid of Chichen Itza is recognized by UNESCO as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Our modern buildings can only envy and cry. The central pyramid in the city is built in such a way that when you turn to face it and clap your hands, it begins to sing with the voice of the Feathered Serpent God The atmosphere is gorgeous

I wrote on Google Map, I'll duplicate it, maybe it will be useful to someone. An interesting place, lots of souvenirs. We got there on our own.To do this, take the R1 bus to the bus station. There, take the bus to Chichen Itza.It takes 30 minutes to get to the bus station, and at least 3.5 hours to get to Chichen Itza. Therefore, I advise you to leave early in the morning and be at the station by 7.30.Then you will have time to get in and swim in the Cenote.A pass to Chichen Itza, if you are not Mexican, costs 600 pesos. We just stupidly went a little to the left of the turnstile and walked together for free)) The only thing is, they stopped me and searched my backpack. They didn't ask for a ticket)If they ask, buy it and that's it.

A place with amazing energy, atmosphere and interesting history. The feeling of touching an ancient culture. The largest and most significant city of the Maya civilization on the Yucatan Peninsula. The second most visited archaeological complex in Mexico. It is included in the list of the New seven wonders of the World. Large-scale, epic. It is mandatory to visit (preferably with a guide). During the visit, stock up on water, a hat and sunscreen. Perception is hindered by numerous merchants and crowds of tourists, therefore, if possible, it is better to arrive in the morning (the park opens at 8:00)

When you say "Mexico", you mean "Chichen Itza" , of course, this is the business card of Mexico. How can you not visit an iconic place, not look at the remains of the ancient Mayan culture. Magnificent geometric calculations were performed by Mayan scientists to build such a block. Yes, you cannot touch the pyramid with your hands and you cannot climb it, but there are many other places where this is not prohibited. Here you can just admire the heritage of the Indians, take a lot of photos, especially if you arrive not in the midst of tourists attacking the pyramid, but early (provided that you drive yourself by car). Also, on the territory of the complex, there is probably the most inexpensive market where you can buy souvenirs: magnets, hammocks embroidery, stoles, stone, wood, silver products - everything your heart desires and for every taste! Indians bargain and can reduce the price well if you talk to them in their language (it is always pleasant for a person).

We need to go on our own without a group, there is not enough time in the group to see everything properly, we spent a couple of hours, excursions in English, I wanted to wander more, besides the pyramids and the stadium, it is worth finding and looking at the observatory. Mexicans are delighted with Russian tourists.

This is a great, well-groomed and clean-shaven place for tourists. It is included in the list of new wonders of the world. It is mandatory to visit, especially from Cancun at hand. But Tiuchiukan is much bigger, and Koba is more authentic. I don't understand why Chichen itza was included in the list of wonders. But nevertheless, on the days of solstice - and we were lucky to get there, you can see how the shadow in the form of a so-called "Feathered Serpent" descends writhing down to the ground. Interesting.

They are not allowed to climb the pyramids. It's a bit dirty on the territory, they could have put things in order, after all, this is the main attraction and crowds of tourists come..If you are interested in the history of the Maya tribes, then you should go, but there is nothing to do there..

An iconic place that needs no introduction!! By the way, you can not pay the guide $ 100 per person for the tour, it is quite possible to get here by rented car from Cancun.

The impression depends very much on the guide. It's not very interesting for yourself if you're not an expert in Maya culture. I liked Ek Balam much more - not everything is trampled by tourists there. And we were lucky to have a Guide in Ek Balam :-)
