The Yandex Research Machine Learning Residency Program is a research position for early-career researchers designed to provide experience in modern, top-tier machine learning (ML) research.
This program is well suited for young researchers on a path to a full-time role in the industry or academia. The program is organized by Yandex Research in collaboration with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and the Higher School of Economics (HSE). We offer a unique opportunity to engage in applied and theoretical ML research, gain experience working on high-impact projects, publish at top-tier academic conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR), contribute to high-tech production services, and collaborate extensively both within Yandex and internationally with top universities and industrial labs.
Residents are paired with senior Yandex researchers who act as mentors and supervisors. Together, they choose a research problem of mutual interest in areas such as computer vision, speech and dialogue systems, natural language processing, autonomous driving, probabilistic ML, reinforcement learning, and graph ML and work on developing new solutions for it. That work may result in publication at conferences or in journals, be implemented at Yandex, or be released as an open-source project. Residents can also collaborate with other residents and full-time Yandex researchers, and they will have the opportunity to attend ML courses at the Yandex School of Data Analysis.
Success in modern ML research requires a broad range of both hard and soft skills. As part of this program, Yandex ML residents will:
- Develop their technical and theoretical understanding of modern ML
- Learn to follow ML literature and form a broad understanding of their chosen area
- Learn to identify novel problems of interest and propose solutions
- Develop their academic writing and oral presentation skills to ensure clear, effective, and engaging presentation of their work
