## What is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)? {#q1}

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. Time zones around the globe are defined as a positive or a negative offset from UTC.

UTC time does not change in winter or summer. Therefore, for those places where there is daylight savings time, the UTC offset is changed instead.
