Power saving mode

When a device is used a lot, its battery runs out quickly. The battery capacity also decreases with time: the longer you use a device, the faster its battery dies. Power saving mode saves battery power and gives you one extra hour of device use.

How does power saving mode work?

In this mode, the Yandex app:

  • Reduces activity of tabs open in the background.
  • Turns on reader mode.
  • Uses hardware video codecs instead of VP9 and VP8 to play video.
  • Turns off the background when you open a new tab.
  • Takes other actions to optimize power consumption.

Enable

Automatic

By default, power saving mode is enabled when the battery charge drops to 20%, and disabled when you start to charge the device.

Permanently enabled
  1. At the bottom, tap  → .
  2. Tap Power saving mode.
  3. In Power-saving settings, slide the option to the right to On.

Disable

Permanently disabled
  1. At the bottom, tap  → .
  2. Tap Power saving mode.
  3. In Power-saving settings, slide the option to the left to Off.

Settings

You can choose when the power saving mode is enabled:

  1. At the bottom, tap  → .
  2. Tap Power saving mode.
  3. Use the slider in Power-saving settings to set the charge level that triggers the mode.
You can also control which app features will work in power-saving mode:
  • Reader mode. Turn on this option to make reader mode available.
