Folders

To keep your emails in order, Yandex Mail puts them into standard, auxiliary, or custom folders based on the criteria you set.

Standard folders

The following standard folders are available in the mailbox:

  • Inbox. All new emails (except spam and emails that are automatically sorted in other folders).

    Warning

If you create a subfolder within your Inbox from an email client, it may cause issues when you move folders or otherwise modify items. To fix the issues, run the email client and place the subfolder one level above, for example, next to Inbox.

  • Sent. All emails you sent.

  • Remind me later. Messages that you postponed.

  • Trash. All messages that you manually deleted or that were deleted with by automatic message sorting.

  • Spam. Emails identified as spam.

  • Drafts. Drafts of emails and templates.

  • Outbox. Emails that were not sent because the internet connection was interrupted. Once the internet connection is restored, the emails will be sent automatically.

  • Archive. Folder for old emails. To move a message to this folder, right-click the message and select Archive. The Archive folder will be displayed in My folders.

You can't edit standard folders. Archive is the only deletable folder.

Subscriptions and social networks

Yandex Mail makes it easy to work with different message categories and sorts them into system folders. Emails sorted to Subscriptions and Social are stored only in these folders and duplicate copies aren't saved anywhere else.

To disable system folders with categories:

  1. In the top right corner, click All settings.
  2. Select Interface.
  3. Disable sort email newsletters and social media content into separate folders.
  4. Save your changes.

After that, all newsletters and social media notifications will be sent back to the Inbox and other folders.

With attachments

Emails with attachments are stored in their relevant folders and are also displayed under the With attachments category for your convenience.

Note

The three-panel interface uses a standard label instead of the With attachments folder. To see all emails with attachments, click under the list of folders.

Personal folders

To add a personal folder, click  next to My folders in the folder list. You can add several personal folders. They will be displayed in My folders.

If you moved your old emails into the Archive, this folder is displayed in the list of your personal folders.

You can edit the contents of My folders on the Folders and labels  page. In particular, you can:

  • Create new folders.
  • Rename, empty or delete folders.
  • Mark all emails in the folder as read.
  • Create filters for automatic sorting of emails.

Note

You can create up to 1017 personal folders with up to 32 nested levels.

Sorting a list of personal folders

Personal folders in a list can be moved and reordered To do this, drag the folder to a new place in the folder list.

By default, personal folders are sorted in alphabetical order. If you move one folder, the alphabetic order can't be automatically restored. But you can manually drag the folder to its previous location. New folders are then displayed at the bottom of the list and not in alphabetical order.

Folders I created have disappeared

Check that the folders you created are in the list of all folders in your mailbox settings. If they are there, but you don't see them in the email list:

  • The option show only folders with unread messages is enabled in mailbox settings. Go to Interface, disable this option, and save changes.

  • The list of personal folders is collapsed. Click the corresponding icon to expand it:

Move email to a folder

To move messages to another folder, select them and click To folder in the top menu or drag to the folder's name in the list to the left. You can also move emails between folders by setting an automatic email sorting rule.

Note

As you move an email into a folder, you will see this message pop up: “Move messages like this into this folder?”. If you answer “Yes”, an auto-sorting filter will be created. You can change or remove your filters on the email filters page.

If the Archive folder does not contain any messages, it will not be displayed in the list of folders. To move a message to this folder, right-click the message and select Archive.

If you can't move a message to another folder, refresh the page by clicking Ctrl+F5. If the problem persists, clear the browser cache and delete all cookies. Then try the intended action again.

Configure automatic sorting of emails by folder

If you receive a lot of messages from various senders (such as from work, friends, and social networks), you can use Yandex Mail to sort them into folders. To learn how to set up automatic sorting of emails, see this article.

Email messages are deleted or sorted into folders automatically

There are several reasons why emails might be deleted or moved:

This is a filter that deletes or moves email messages

Make sure there are no mail filters that delete incoming messages or move them to other folders. If this is the case, try to disable them temporarily and see if the emails arrive to the Inbox folder.

If there is a filter that you didn't create, it was probably created automatically. This can happen if you move an email to another folder and click Yes when a pop-up asking "Move messages like this into this folder?" appears.

The sender is listed as a disabled subscription

Emails are moved to Trash when you disable the subscription that they're associated with using the Manage subscriptions feature. In Settings, select Manage subscriptions, open the Disabled tab, and check if the sender is listed there. If you want the emails from this sender to appear in your Inbox, select the subscription and click Receive emails from this sender.

Remove all emails from a folder

  1. In the top right corner, click All settings.

  2. Choose Folders and labels.

  3. Choose a folder and click Empty.

  4. Choose if you want to move emails to Trash or delete them permanently.

    Note

  5. Click Empty.

If you use multiple accounts in the Yandex Mail app for Android, you can read incoming emails from all connected mailboxes in one place: the All inboxes folder.

It only displays messages from the Inbox folders. Messages from other folders (Subscriptions, Social media, or folders created by you) don't appear in All inboxes.

The folder appears if you have 2 to 10 connected accounts in the app, including external ones (such as Mail.Ru, Google, Outlook.com, Hotmail, Rambler, Yahoo!, QIP, NGS, or other mail services).

Enable or disable the folder

1. Pull the screen to the right.

If you want All inboxes to open first when you launch Yandex Mail, enable the Open by default option.

To find unread emails in the All inboxes folder faster, enable the filter: tap in the top right corner of the folder.

You can reply to an email directly from the All inboxes folder: the original mailbox address will automatically appear in the From field in the reply email.

You can search for, move messages, and add labels only to the messages for the account you're currently using.
