Edit documents
You can create and edit documents, tables, and presentations directly on Yandex Disk.
The following file formats are supported: DOCX
for documents, XLSX
for spreadsheets, and PPTX
for presentations.
The maximum file size that you can open in the editor:
- For documents and tables — 100 MB.
- For presentations — 200 MB.

If you open a document in an old format (DOC
, RTF
, ODT
, XLS
, ODS
, PPT
, or ODP
) in the editor, Yandex Disk will suggest creating a copy of this document in a new format (DOCX
, XLSX
, or PPTX
). You can edit the copy, while the original document will remain available for viewing.

Create a document
To create a new document, table, or presentation, click the Create button on the left panel and choose the file type. You can also create documents using the context menu.
If you want to edit an existing document, open it on Yandex Disk or upload it to Yandex Disk from your computer.
Using the editor
Double-click the document to open it in the editor.
All changes will be saved automatically. To close the document and return to the Yandex Disk folder, close the editor tab.
You can rename the file, download it, or send it to print. To see additional file management options, open the File menu.
Collaborate on documents
Up to 40 users can edit a document on Yandex Disk at the same time. To collaborate on a document with friends or colleagues, share it:

In Yandex Disk, right-click the document and select Share in the contect menu. You can also share the document directly from the editor page. To do this, click Share in the top right corner.

Select an access type: View or Edit.
Alert
You can't set up personal permissions (view-only or editing for different users) yet.

If necessary, specify the security settings for the link.

Available only in Yandex 360 plans.
- For documents with the View access, you can set a password. Only those you share the password with will be able to access the document.
- Enable Set password.
- Enter a password that's at least 4 characters long and remember it.
- Click Done.
Once the password is set, you can edit or remove it.
If you share the link on social media or in a messaging app
- If you set a password and then share the protected link through social media or a messaging app, the document preview and title will be hidden.
- If you share a public link via social media or a messaging app and then set a password, users will see the document preview and title, but the contents of the link will be password-protected.
Note
For documents with the Edit access, you can set a password in the editor.
- You can disable downloads for files or folders with View access. After users follow such a link, the Download, Save to Yandex Disk, and Print buttons will be unavailable to them. Users can only view the document from a public page.

Keep in mind that they can still take a screenshot of the document or record it on video.
- Set an expiration date: when the time expires, the link will be deleted and the document will become unavailable to users until you share it again.

Click Copy link and share it in a way you prefer.
I can't grant edit access
If there is only the View but no Edit option in the access management window, this means collaborative editing is not available for this document yet.
Why this may happen:
The document is opened in the old editor
- The new editor with the option for collaborative editing may not have been activated for this document yet. Close the document tab and try sharing it again.
The document is in an old format
DOC
,PPT
, andXLS
files can only be opened for collaborative viewing. If you want to collaborate on this document with others, open it in the editor first. This creates a shareable copy of the document in a new format.
The document is stored in a shared folder, and its owner uses the old editor
- Ask the folder owner to grant you edit access to the document. This way, the new editor will be activated for them, and collaborative editing will be enabled. After that, you can also share the document.
View history
You can view the version history of files that you edit.
