Set up camera, microphone, and sound
When you call somebody or accept an incoming call in Yandex Messenger for the first time, the app or your browser requests access to your microphone and camera (if it's a video call). You can grant access right away or do it manually later. Unless you do that, you won't be able to make calls using Yandex Messenger.
How to allow access manually
Windows 10
Camera access:
- Click
→ 
→ Privacy. - In the menu on the left, select Camera.
- If the Allow apps to access your camera option is disabled, enable it.
- If the Camera option is disabled in the list of apps that can access your camera, enable it.
Microphone access:
- Click → → Privacy.
- In the menu on the left, select Microphone.
- If the Allow apps to access your microphone option is disabled, enable it.
- If the Voice Recorder option is disabled in the list of apps that can access your microphone, enable it.
Tip
Additionally, make sure Yandex Messenger is added to the antivirus exception list.
macOS
In the system settings, make sure Yandex Messenger has:
- Open the settings.
- For Android, go to Apps & notifications → Show all apps → Yandex Messenger → Permissions.
- For iOS, swipe to the list of apps and select Yandex Messenger.
- Activate the Camera and Microphone options.
Select your browser
On top of that, make sure that access to the camera and microphone is allowed in your device's OS settings.
Windows 10
Camera access:
- Click → → Privacy.
- In the menu on the left, select Camera.
- Make sure that Allow apps to access your camera setting is on.
- In the list of applications that can access the microphone, make sure that the Camera option is on.
To access the microphone:
- Click → → Privacy.
- In the menu on the left, select Microphone.
- Make sure that the Allow apps to access your microphone setting is on.
- In the list of applications that can access the microphone, make sure that the Voice Recorder option is on.
Tip
Additionally, make sure Yandex Messenger is added to the antivirus exception list.
macOS
Check whether the browser in which you're using Yandex Messenger has:
Choose a device for audio and video
- Press
above the chat list. - In the Calls section, select:
- Camera — your video source.
- Microphone — your audio source.
- Sound — caller's voice during the call.
- Incoming call sound — ringtone for incoming calls.
- Select the default device.
Automatically turn on your camera and microphone
You can choose to join group calls with your camera and microphone on or off by default. To manage this setting, go to Settings → Group calls.
