Problems with extensions and apps

An installed extension is disabled

Some developers create extensions that distribute malware or show users pop-up ads, flashing banners, and other intrusive advertising. That is why Yandex.Browser allows you to install extensions only from Chrome Web Store and Opera Add-ons where extensions are checked.

Restriction. Extensions are checked only in Windows.

If you install an extension from another website, the browser will disable it immediately after installation and inform you of this. If you trust the source, you can enable the extension for a single session by clicking Enable in the upper-left corner of the window:

Note. If you don't want to enable the extension every time you launch the browser, contact the developers of the extension and ask them to publish it in Chrome Web Store or Opera Add-ons. If you have created an extension yourself, publish it in the online store, and then install it from that store.

When you click OK in the window, the extension from an untrusted source is disabled. If you want to enable the extension later, you can do this in the browser settings:

  1. Click the button

In the top right corner of the browser window

  2. Set the option to On for the desired extension.

My extension is disabled

In Yandex.Browser, extensions can only be installed from Chrome Web Store or Opera Add-ons. The browser disables all other extensions. If an extension that you develop is disabled:

  • If your extension is available in the Opera or Chrome catalogs, specify the correct link for updating it in the update_url field in the manifest.json file. The table shows the link for updating extensions for each catalog:
    Catalog nameLink for updating extensions
    Yandex catalog
    Chrome catalog
    Opera catalog
  • If your extension is not in any catalog, enable it each time when you launch the browser (in the dialogue window or browser settings).

Extension authenticity could not be verified

Sometimes attackers try to replace the files in installed extensions with advertising files or malicious code. To protect you from this type of deception, the browser periodically verifies the authenticity of extensions.

If an extension does not pass verification, the browser disables it and displays a warning:

  • If you do not need the suspicious extension, click Delete.
  • If you need the extension, click the Reload button to restore the legitimate version of it.
  • If you close the window by clicking outside of it, the extension remains disabled. If necessary, you can enable it on the page browser://tune, but we do not recommend this.

My extension didn't pass verification

Yandex.Browser verifies the authenticity of extensions in order to protect users from fakes with advertising or malicious code. If an extension you develop doesn't pass verification:

  • Make sure that the user's version of the extension matches the version that is available at the link from the update_url field in the manifest.json file.
  • You can also clear the update_url field, so authenticity will not be verified.

Ads and banners appear

Some browser extensions may change the appearance of websites by opening pop-up windows

A window that opens on the computer screen as the result of some operation. They have a wide range of application, from helpful software to malicious use.

    2. Go to the Extensions tab.
