Page translator

Translating a page to your native language

Restriction. If your browser's language is Chinese, Japanese, or Kazakh, the translation panel will not appear.

Tip. If you open a page in a foreign language and the translate bar does not appear, see the section How do I enable or disable the page translator?

After loading a page, the browser automatically detects which language is used on it. If this language differs from your interface language, a translation bar appears in the SmartBox:

  • Click the Translate to English button to have the browser translate the text on this page to English.

  • If you think that the browser incorrectly detected the language on the page, select the appropriate one by clicking the button

Re-translating a page

After translating a page, the user can choose a different language and translate the page again. This is useful for translating a page to a specific language other than the user's native language.

To re-translate a page:

  1. Translate the page to your native language.
  2. Click the button

      Translate into another language<language>.

To close the translation bar, click the button

Word and sentence translator

  • To see translation for a word, point the mouse at it, then press and hold Shift.
  • To translate several words or sentences, select them and click the button that appears at the end of the selected text.

If necessary, you can turn off the translator; see the section Turning the Word Translator on or off.

How do I enable or disable the page translator?

The page translator can be enabled or disabled completely, or just for individual languages.

To enable or disable the page translator by default:
  1. Click the button

      Settings.
  2. In the lower part of the Settings page, click the Show advanced settings button.

  3. In the Languages section, select or deselect the Offer to translate pages in a foreign language option to enable or disable page translation.

To enable the translator again:
  1. Go to any page that is in the language you want to translate.

  2. Open the context menu

    on any part of the page (other than images and links).
  3. Select Translate to <your native language> .

Turning the Word Translator on or off

  1. Click the button

  3. In the Languages section, select or deselect the option Offer to translate words and phrases when selected.
