The Internet is both a source of useful information and an environment for the proliferation of computer viruses. Hackers use viruses to steal information and be able to control an infected computer or website.
An insufficiently protected computer is usually infected when a page containing malicious content is loading. The virus may further spread by distributing spam or integrating malicious code into websites that it receives unauthorized access to.
Follow the recommendations below to ensure that your website is secure:
Don't save passwords to your FTP server, website, mail, or web services (especially those connected with e-money) so that they are automatically entered on your computer or FTP clients. It is much safer always to enter passwords manually when prompted by a program.
Register your website on Yandex.Webmaster so that the service regularly checks your website pages for
- viruses. Sign up to get notifications in the case that malicious code turns up on your website, so that you can address the situation immediately;
- suspicious activity (XSS, spam in forums, hidden spam links posted on pages).
Remember: many users don't risk going to websites that have been flagged as dangerous.
