Sitemap file analysis error manual

Errors

The list of errors that may be encountered while parsing Sitemap files.

ErrorDescription
Unable to load file.

An attempt to load a Sitemap file failed. It is possible that an incorrect URL was specified.

The file is too long.

The Sitemap file size exceeds 10 MB.

An HTTP error.

An HTTP error occurred on loading a Sitemap file: server response code is not equal to 200.

Invalid URL.

Invalid URL of the Sitemap file was specified.

Connection was terminated.

The web server terminated connection while the Sitemap file was being loaded.

A DNS error.

Unable to load file because of a DNS error. Invalid URL of the file may have been specified.

Connection error.

Unable to load the Sitemap file because it was impossible to establish connection to web server.

URL disallowed in robots.txt file.

The URL of the Sitemap file is disallowed in robots.txt file and the file could not be loaded. Check correctness of robots.txt file and the URL of the Sitemap file.

Invalid HTTP response.

Unable to load the Sitemap file because the response of web server does not comply with HTTP protocol.

No data in response.

When attempting to load Sitemap file, the server returned an empty document.

Decompression error.

An error occurred during decompression of a gzipped Sitemap file.

Tag repetition.

The specified tag must only be used once in this context.

Unknown tag.

The specified tag must not be used in this context.

Tag not found.

A required tag was omitted.

Invalid URL.

The URL does not comply with the standard.

Incorrect URL (does not match the location of the Sitemap file).

The location of the Sitemap file determines the set of URLs that can be included into this Sitemap file. A Sitemap file located in a particular catalog must include URLs located in the same catalogs or its subcatalog. For additional information see Sitemap file location.

A URL is too long.

The URL exceeds acceptable length (1024 characters).

Tag must not be empty.

The specified tag must not be empty.

Tag must not contain other tags.

The specified tag must not contain other tags.

Too much data in a tag.

The specified tag contains too much data.

No data in a tag.

The specified tag does not contain the required data.

Wrong encoding.

The Sitemap file does not start with a correct utf-8 prefix (0xEF 0xBB 0xBF). The sitemap.xml file must begin with the following line: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Invalid XML.

The Sitemap file is not a well-formed XML document, i.e. it does not comply with the XML syntax.

Too many errors (processing aborted).

More than 100 errors were discovered in the Sitemap file. Further file processing is aborted.

The number of URLs is too big.

A Sitemap file cannot contain more than 50,000 URL. If you have to list more than 50,000 URL, create several Sitemap files and include them into the Sitemap index file (see Using Sitemap index files).

The number of Sitemap files is too big.

A Sitemap index file cannot contain more than 1000 URLs of Sitemap files.

Too many invalid URLs in the beginning of the file (processing aborted).

A Sitemap file starts with several invalid URLs in a row. Further file processing is aborted because, most likely, the file format is wrong.

A Sitemap index file cannot contain links to Sitemap index files.

A Sitemap index file can only contain links to Sitemap files, but not to other Sitemap index files.

Error in a root tag.

An error occurred during root tag processing.

Warnings

The list of warnings that may be encountered while parsing Sitemap files.

WarningDescription
The encoding is different from utf-8.

The correct utf-8 prefix (0xEF 0xBB 0xBF) is missing.

Unexpected tag (ignored).

An unexpected tag was discovered. It may be a Sitemap protocol extension. The tag will be ignored.

Unexpected text (ignored).

An unexpected text was discovered during parsing. The text will be ignored.

Unexpected attribute (ignored).

An unexpected attribute was discovered during parsing. The attribute will be ignored.

Too many warnings (no more warnings will be displayed).

More than 100 warnings were generated during Sitemap file parsing. Warnings output is suppressed.

Empty line (ignored).

An empty line was discovered during Sitemap file parsing.

Incorrect URL (does not match the location of the Sitemap index file).

Sitemap index file may contain URLs of Sitemap files residing on the same site. For additional information see Using Sitemap index files.

Wrong URL priority format.

The priority must be a number between 0.0 and 1.0. For additional information see Definitions of XML tags

A tag cannot be empty.

The specified tag must contain data.

A tag must not contain other tags.

The specified tag must not contain children tags.

Too much data in a tag.

The specified tag contains too much data.

No data in a tag.

The specified tag does not contain the required data.

Wrong value of lastmod tag.

The lastmod tag contains an incorrect date. The date must comply with W3C Datetime format.
