hCard markup is processed simultaneously while your site is being indexed by the Yandex search robot. Various sites are crawled with varying speeds that usually depend on the site update frequency. Additional information on the indexing procedure can be found in the Help topic on Site indexing.
We recommend adding the pages that contain marked-up contact information into the Sitemap file in order to notify the search robot that those pages are important.
Before being added to the Organizational registry, the data extracted from a card is moderated. Data processing may take up to two weeks.
In addition to hCard markup, you can add your site address to the Organizational registry by using the publicly available form for the Yandex.Directory service or a special form for the Yandex.Webmaster service. The latter method is preferable for a site owner because it allows him/her to monitor the application processing progress as well as possible error information.
You may use either of these methods, whichever you prefer.
Using hCard, you make your contact information available not only to Yandex, but also to the entire world. Address data markup is a recommended practice when creating a site. When using it, you do not have to worry about any interaction with Yandex nor do you have to register with the Yandex.Webmaster service. If your address, telephone number or any other data has changed, it is enough to simply update the information on your site.
The advantages of using the Yandex.Webmaster service for adding and updating contact information include faster data updates in the Organizational registry and the capability to monitor the moderation process.
The information extracted from hCard markup and the information added using the Yandex.Webmaster service both end up in the unified database. This means that the hCard data can be later viewed and edited through the Yandex.Webmaster service.
Using hCard markup is convenient when creating a new site: as a result, the site will get into the search index and the Organizational registry simultaneously without requiring any additional actions from you.
You can also favor hCard markup if your organization has an extensive network of branches with addresses that change relatively often. In this case, the changes in the Organizational registry will match the changes made on your site and you will not have to make any special efforts to keep the contact information up-to-date.
No. Currently Yandex only processes cards of organizations.
hCard is a completely open format. This means that you cannot control which services will extract the marked-up data or how they will use it. However, you should keep in mind that any information published openly could possibly be used for malicious purposes. Semantic markup simply facilitates data extraction from text on webpages. The absence of markup in and of itself does not guarantee security.
In any case, it is up to you to decide whether you want to use microformats and which data to mark up with them.
