Managing access rights
Only a user with the Owner role and verified site ownership can manage other users' permissions, including assigning, editing, and revoking roles.
Assigning access rights
To transfer the rights:
- Go to Settings → Manage access. You can also go there from the My sites page.
- In the User list section, enter a username.
- Select the role you want to assign and click Add.
Role descriptions
Each user can have only one role. You can't assign multiple roles to one user.
Owner
To get this role, you need to verify site ownership.
The Owner role gives you full control over the site in Yandex Webmaster. This includes viewing and editing all information, as well as managing other users' permissions (editing and revoking roles).
One site can have multiple owners. You can view the list of site owners on the Manage access page. If you see that a user who shouldn't have this role is listed as a site owner, revoke the role.
Edit
View
Users with this role can view all site information, but they can't edit it.
Partial access
Users with this role have access to specific Yandex Webmaster tools and features, and they can only view and edit site information using those tools and features:
Indexing and search queries
All tools in the Indexing section:
- Crawl statistics
- Searchable pages
- Site structure
- All pages
- Сheck page
- Important page monitoring
- Reindexing
- Sitemap files
- Tags crawl
- Separating mirrors
- Crawl rate
- Titles and descriptions
- JavaScript page rendering
Tools in the Efficiency section:
Search appearance settings
Manage feeds
Manage reviews
The user who was assigned rights should log in to Yandex Webmaster with their Yandex ID and add the site. The rights are then verified automatically. To check for access rights, go to the Access rights page.
Editing access rights
Note
Only users with the Owner role can edit rights.
To edit the role:
- Go to Settings → Manage access.
- In the User list section, click the role next to the user.
- Edit the role and click Save.
The user will be notified about the role change by email. The role updates automatically. You don't have to re-add the site to Yandex Webmaster.
Transfer data to another Yandex ID
To transfer information about a site in Yandex Webmaster from one Yandex ID to another:
- Log in to Yandex Webmaster under the username you want to transfer the data to.
- Add the site and verify site ownership to manage it.
If you have previously given a user site access, and their Yandex ID has changed:
-
Log in to Yandex Webmaster under the username you want to transfer the data to.
-
Change the Yandex ID to the one that can be used to assign roles.
-
On the Manage access page, in the User list section, specify the username under which you added the site in Step 2, assign the role, and click Save.
The site information will be fully copied from the old Yandex ID to the new one.
Reset rights
Management rights to one site can be verified by several people. This is convenient if, for example, both the webmaster and the site owner want to keep track of things.
If you think that the site management rights were verified by a user who shouldn't have them, reset their access rights:
-
Delete the changes made to verify the rights, depending on the method:
-
Remove the
<meta name="yandex-verification" content="verification code of the user whose rights you want to reset"/>
meta tag from the HTML code of the site's home page. -
Remove the
yandex_<verification code of the user whose rights you want to reset>.html
HTML file from the site's root directory. -
Remove the
yandex-verification: <verification code of the user whose rights you want to reset>
record from DNS records.
-
-
In Yandex Webmaster, go to Settings → Manage access.
-
Click Revoke role next to the username.
If you believe that access to the site was obtained by an attacker, use site protection guidelines.
FAQ
I was assigned rights, but they're not verified
-
Check the Yandex ID under which you're logged in to Yandex Webmaster. The username must match the one that the site owner entered when assigning the rights.
-
When the site owner assigns rights to a user, the site isn't added to that user account automatically. Add the site to Yandex Webmaster if you haven't done it yet.
-
Check what URL the site owner added to Yandex Webmaster and add the same one in your account. Note that the search engine treats
https://www.example.com
, andhttp://example.com
as different sites.
If the problem remains, contact support.
I'm the site owner, but I can't assign rights to another user
-
Check what rights you have.
To assign roles to other users, you must have the Owner role and verify site ownership using one of these methods: add an HTML file to your site's root directory, embed a meta tag on the home page, or add a TXT record to DNS.
-
If you were assigned the role by another user (for example, the webmaster who maintains your site), Yandex Webmaster won't recognize you as the site owner. Ask the user who previously assigned you the role to revoke it. This way, you can verify site ownership and get the Owner role.
If you can't do that:
- Log in to Yandex Webmaster with your username.
- Remove the site on the My sites page. When a site is removed from Yandex Webmaster, no settings or statistics are lost.
- Add the site again.
- Verify site ownership using your preferred method.
- After verifying site ownership, you can assign the role to another user.
-
If you've verified site ownership but can't assign the role to another user:
- Check site ownership in Settings → Manage access.
- If site ownership is verified, contact support.
My rights have been reset
The indexing bot regularly monitors changes on your site and checks the verification code. This is done to promptly restrict access to the site for users who shouldn't have it.
If the verification code can't be detected on your site, the site returns to being unverified. We recommend that you make sure to keep the verification code on the site so that your rights aren't reset.
To restore the revoked rights, verify them again using any of the available methods. This will not affect the site statistics collected.
I'm the site owner, but I can't reset another user's rights
For Yandex Webmaster, the site owner is the user who verified their site management rights.
A user with rights assigned by someone else can't change the verification method or revoke someone else's rights on their own.
If you're the site owner but can't manage other users' rights:
-
Go to Settings → Manage access and check whether you verified site ownership in Yandex Webmaster or you were assigned the role by another user (for example, the webmaster who maintains your site).
-
If you were assigned the role by another user, they need to revoke it.
Ask the person who assigned you the role to revoke it. If you can't do that, remove the site from Yandex Webmaster and add it again.
When a site is removed from Yandex Webmaster, no settings or statistics are lost.
-
After resetting the rights, verify your site management rights using any of the available methods.
