# Wind map

## What is a wind map {#find}

[Wind map](https://yandex.com/weather/maps/wind) shows the direction and speed at which the wind is moving around the world. The map shows the current wind speed and direction, as well as for the past and next 36 hours.

The wind map is made using the [Meteum](https://yandex.com/support/weather/en/faq.md#what-is-meteum-meteum) technology.

Map data is updated every three hours.

## How to use the map {#work}

There are two ways to view the wind map:
- In the **Weather map** section of the [service homepage](https://yandex.com/weather/), click **![](_assets/wind-icon.svg) Wind**.
    
- Click **Weather map** at the top of any page. Click **![](_assets/wind-icon.svg) Wind** in the top left corner of the map.
    

On the wind map, you can find:
- The forecast for the near future: move the slider on the time scale at the bottom of the page or select the time.
- The exact wind speed and direction for a specific point: mouse over it.
- A summary forecast for a specific point. Click on it: a card will open with the weather data for the selected location.
- The wind direction: in the bottom left corner, enable the **Animated wind** option.

To switch to a different weather map, select it in the top left corner of the map.

To open the wind map:

1. On the homepage, tap the map.
    
1. Tap **![](_assets/choose-map.png)** → **![](_assets/wind-icon.svg) Wind** on the right of the map.

On the wind map, you can find:
- The forecast for the near future: move the slider on the time scale at the bottom of the page or select the time.
- The exact wind speed and direction for a specific location. To do this, tap the location on the map.
- The wind direction: in the bottom left corner, enable the **Animated wind** option.

## Wind direction animation is not working {#temperature-map-not-working}

Wind direction animation may malfunction if the WebGL library is disabled. To enable the WebGL library, do the following in your browser:

- Yandex Browser

  
  1. Click **![](_assets/settings-icon.png)** → **Settings**.
  1. On the **System** tab, enable the **Use hardware acceleration if possible** option in the **Performance** section.
  1. Restart the browser to apply the changes.


- Google Chrome

  
  1. Click **![](_assets/chrome-settings.png)** → **Settings**.
  1. On the **System** tab, enable the option **Use hardware acceleration when available**.
  1. Restart the browser to apply the changes.
  

- Mozilla Firefox

  
  1. Click **![](_assets/firefox-settings.png)** → **Settings**.
  1. On the **General** tab, enable the **Use hardware acceleration when available** option in the **Performance** section.
  1. Restart the browser to apply the changes.
  

- Opera

  
  1. Click **Menu** → **Settings** → **Advanced**.
  1. In the **System** section, enable the option **Use hardware acceleration when available**.
  1. Restart the browser to apply the changes.
  

- Microsoft Edge

  
  1. Click **![](_assets/ya-mob-settings.png)** → **Settings** and go to the **System and perfomance** tab.
  1. In the **System** section, enable the option **Use hardware acceleration when available**.
  1. Restart the browser to apply the changes.
