# Your location

Yandex Weather determines the region you're in automatically using GPS data. You need to make sure that access to location data is granted in the device settings.

For devices without a GPS receiver, the region is determined by the IP address. Sometimes this method involves a large margin of inaccuracy. For questions about the geographic location of your IP address, you can contact your internet service provider.

The Yandex Weather app determines your location using GPS data and precise coordinates provided by location services. For the app to update information in the background, allow it to always access your location in your device settings. The app will determine your location down to the neighborhood level only if you have location services enabled on your device and the “All sources” mode selected.

To set the location manually:

{% cut "In the desktop and mobile versions" %}

Enter the name of the city on [settings page](https://tune.yandex.com/region).

The city that you have manually selected is saved in the cookies. If you always see a different city instead of the one selected manually, this means that the cookies are cleared from your browser. Allow saving cookies in the browser settings. Find out how to do this in [Cookies](https://yandex.com/support/common/browsers-settings/browsers-cookies.html).

For more information about how websites determine your location, see the section [Your location](https://yandex.com/support/common/yandex-settings/region-settings.html).

## Forecast for my city {#my-city}

There are two ways you can find out the forecast for your exact location.

{% cut "In the desktop version" %}

On the [homepage of the service](https://yandex.com/weather/), select **My location** to the right of the city name. The service will determine your exact coordinates and show the forecast for that location.

{% note alert %}

If you're using the location function for the first time, the browser will ask for permission to determine your location for the website `yandex.com/weather`. Allow it to determine your location: Yandex Weather will use this data to make the most accurate weather forecast possible.

{% endnote %}
