Text translation

    Yandex.Translate is designed to translate individual words as well as texts, website content and apps on your device. You can use a physical keyboard or on-screen keyboard to enter characters. As soon as you begin entering a text, the translator will automatically detect the language and suggest words that match what you are typing. The translation will appear as soon as you enter the first word.

    To enable voice input, click . This feature is available for English, Russian, Ukrainian, and Turkish. You need to select your language manually before using voice input.

    Actions with the translated text:
    Feature What you want to do
    Copy Click the button in the box with the translation.
    Use text-to-speech feature Click . The list of supported languages for text-to-speech depends on your currently installed browser and the operating system you are using. You cannot change the text-to-speech speed or the speaker's voice.
    Translate an individual word in a phrase In the block with the source text, select the word you need to translate.
    Edit Click in the translation window. Make changes and click Done.
    Add to collection

    Click in the translation window. The translation will be automatically added to Favorites.

    To view all available collections, tap .

    There are several ways to create your own collections:
    1. In the collections menu, click Create.
    2. Click Change collection when adding a new word. In the window that opens, click Create new.

    To sync collections on all your devices, log in to the service and click the button.

    I can't add a word or translation to Favorites

    Possible reasons:

    • You are not logged into Yandex.Translate.

    • The source text or the translation exceeds the maximum allowed limit of 300 characters.
    • The number of words in your collection exceeds the allowed maximum amount. Each collection can hold up to 2500 translations. You can delete old translations from your list and save new ones.

    Translation problems when using multiple languages in the source text

    Go to the language box in the source text block and deselect the Auto detect box.

    Error in the translation of the text and individual words

    If you have found an error in the translation of a text or word:
    1. Click in the translation window.
    2. Click Suggest a translation.
    3. Enter your translation.
    4. Click Done.

    Voice input doesn't work

    It's possible that voice input is blocked by your browser, or doesn't support the translation language you want to use.

    To unblock voice input, you need to:

    1. Click . Then click in your browser's address bar.
    2. In the pop-up window that appears, click Always allow https://translate.yandex.com access to your microphone.
    3. Click Done and then refresh the page.

    Text-to-speech doesn't work

    If you have problems with text-to-speech, make sure that:

    • Text-to-speech supports the selected language.
    • The sound isn't muted on your computer.

    • The text you've entered isn't too long. The text shouldn't be longer than 100 or 300 words (depending on the browser version and the OS you are using).
    • Yandex.Translate supports the current version of your browser.
