# Family search mode for organizations

When using the internet in educational institutions and other organizations, it's very important to set up [safe search](https://yandex.com/company/our_principles/adult_content/), which protects users from sexual content. To enable page filtering for regular search, images, and videos, use [Family mode](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/additional-features/adult-filter.md).

You can set up family search mode using one of the following methods:

- [Enable the **Family** filter in search settings](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/schoolsearch.md#searchset).
- [Set up Yandex DNS](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/schoolsearch.md#dns).
- [Enter the Yandex IP address for family search mode in the "hosts" file](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/schoolsearch.md#hosts).

## Enable family search mode {#searchset}

1. Go to [Search settings](https://yandex.com/tune/search).
1. Under **Filter search results**, select **Family mode**.
1. At the bottom of the page, click **Save**.

To save the selected filter and apply it to new sessions, enable [cookies](https://yandex.com/support/common/browsers-settings/browsers-cookies.html) in your browser settings.

## Yandex DNS {#dns}

With [Yandex DNS](https://dns.yandex.com/), you can set up family search mode for [individual computers](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/schoolsearch.md#comp) or all LAN devices ([router configuration](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/schoolsearch.md#router)). DNS settings take priority over the values set on the [Search settings](#searchset) page.

**Computer settings** {#comp}

: To set up Yandex DNS on a computer, go to your network settings. Access to edit these settings may be restricted by the computer administrator.

    The configuration procedure depends on the operating system you are using:

    - [Windows](https://yandex.com/support/dns/settings-windows.html)
    - [Linux](https://yandex.com/support/dns/settings-linux.html)
    - [Mac OS](https://yandex.com/support/dns/settings-macos.html)

**Router configuration** {#router}

: Yandex DNS is set up on the router by the network administrator.

    The configuration procedure depends on the router model:

    - [ASUS](https://yandex.com/support/dns/asus.html)
    - [D-Link](https://yandex.com/support/dns/d-link.html)
    - [ZyXEL](https://yandex.com/support/dns/zyxel.html)

## Hosts file {#hosts}

The [hosts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_%28file%29) file allows you to specify particular IP addresses for host (domain, server) names by which they will be accessible from a PC. To edit the `hosts` file, you need the access rights of an administrator (for Windows) or a superuser (for Linux).

The settings in the `hosts` file take priority over the [DNS](https://yandex.com/support/search/en/schoolsearch.md#dns) settings.

To make sure the Yandex search engine is used in family search mode, add the following record to the `hosts` file:

`213.180.193.56 yandex.ru`

`213.180.193.56` is the Yandex IP address with the preset family search.

If you see a page with sexual content or obscene language in Yandex in family search mode, please report it to support.
