How ratings are calculated

Store rating is a number from 0 to 1 that is shown to users as an image with one to five stars.

The store rating is determined by the number of errors during verification by the quality team, rating scores given by your customers, and the quality coefficients of these scores. As the quantity of customer scores increases, the influence of verification errors decreases until it disappears.

Score quality coefficient is an indicator based on data about the user who left a rating score. This indicator is measured on a scale of 0 (not trustworthy) to 1 (highly trustworthy). This is an internal parameter of the user component, so its value is not given for each individual rating score.

How the numerical value of the rating corresponds to the value in stars:

Rating calculation

Your store's rating is calculated using the following formula:

meaning the rating is determined by three parameters:

• store's rating from users

• store's rating from the quality team

• number of user ratings

The formula relates these three values so that your rating goes from to as the number of user ratings grows. If there aren't any, your rating is equal to . If there are a lot of them, it is equal to . Otherwise, it is somewhere between these two numbers. The diagram below shows an example of how the final rating depends on the number of ratings for and .

• User component

Users give your store a rating score from 1 to 5 stars. The user component of the rating depends on the user's rating and the rating quality and is calculated with the formula:

Rating quality can take any values from 0 to 1.

During calculation, user ratings take the following values:

• Quality team component

The quality team's rating is a combination of three components — the store quality index , the bonus for publication time , and the bonus for the store's quality of service :

The quality team's rating cannot be higher than 0.7.

The store quality index is the ratio of the number of verification tests without errors to the total number of tests :

If there were less than three verification tests over the past 90 days, the store quality index is considered equal to 1.

The bonus for publication time can take one of three values: 0, 0.5, or 1 — if the store has been published for less than a year or more than a year, but less than three years and more than three years, respectively.

The bonus for store service quality takes the value 1 if there were no errors or negative feedback/ratings over the past 90 days.

Calculation examples

Example 1:

The store has been published on Yandex.Market for two and a half years. The quality team checked the store 15 times in the past 90 days. Of these, 8 tests found errors in the store's operation. Over the past 90 days, users rated the store like this:

This means the store gets 3 stars (because it falls in the 0.4 to 0.59 range).

Example 2:

Let's assume that the store from example 1 has a significantly larger number of user ratings, although their distribution is similar:

Calculating the user component:

The quality team's rating will not change and is equal to 0.28.

But because of the larger number of user ratings, the final rating changes:

As you can see, the store's rating is almost completely determined by the user ratings and the end result is 4 stars (because it falls in the range between 0.6 and 0.8).
