Ad formats

Yandex Advertising Network offers website owners a wide range of formats and options for configuring ad units.

Media ads
Media ads introduces users to new products, brands, and so on. They are usually interesting with no specific call to action. You can choose the size of ad units displayed on your website. However, you can't customize the appearance of the units.
Standard design

Standard design is an advertising format for text and image ads. The ad design is created automatically. The size of the unit adapts to the container size on the website.

Smart Design technology is used for rendering ads. It determines which ad elements are relevant for each user and your ad platform and can add text, sitelinks, an action button, or other elements, if necessary. As a result, all ads designed by the Smart Design algorithm will look unique.
Native design
Native design is a text and image ad format that flexibly adapts to the website design. You can customize the HTML and CSS settings to blend your text and image ad into your website.
Video ads
Video ads are ads in the format of short videos. The size of the unit adapts to the container size on the website.

Unit types for the mobile version of the website

You can select the unit type if you're creating a unit for the mobile version of the website:

The unit type defines:

  • The unit display method: in-page, full-screen or at the bottom of the screen.
  • The formats you can use in the unit.

You can't change the unit type after it's created.

Tip. In the mobile version of the website, you can insert code for units created for the desktop version. It will be rendered as a standard unit. This opposite is also true: code for standard units for the mobile version can be placed on the desktop version of a website.

The code for fullscreen units and Floor Ad units can also be placed on desktop websites, but will only be rendered for mobile users.

Standard

The size of the unit adapts to size of its container. You set the position of the ad unit in the mobile version of the website.

A standard unit can contain:

  • Text and image ads with the Adaptive  format. The design of text and image ads is created automatically using Smart Design technology. The technology determines which ad is more likely to attract the user's attention and builds it from the available modules.
  • Media ads (banners).

The standard unit code can be placed both on the desktop and mobile website versions simultaneously.

Fullscreen

Ads in the unit are displayed in fullscreen. The user can close it at any time.

We recommend adding the unit on pages of the website other than the home page. On sites with infinite scroll feeds, it's best to embed the unit code at the beginning of the page: this way, the ad will load before the content.

The unit can contain:

To create a fullscreen unit, in the Yandex Advertising Network interface:

  1. Go to Ads on websites → RTB units. Click Add RTB unit.
  2. Select the ad platform from the list.
  3. Select the mobile version of the website and the Fullscreen unit type.
  4. In the Advertising formats window to the right of the format cards, set the unit impression limits:

    • Maximum unit impressions to a unique user in a given period: Select the number of impressions, from 1 to 3.
    • Restriction period: Set the period during which the unit can be displayed the maximum number of times. For example, if you want the unit to appear no more than 1 time per hour, select 1 in the Maximum unit impressions to a unique user in a given period field and select 1 hour in the Restriction period.

The default frequency is no more than 1 time in 5 minutes. We don't recommend showing fullscreen units too often, as this may distract the user from the website content.

    • Allowed website sections, Restricted website sections: Specify the website sections where you plan to allow or, on the contrary, restrict impressions of a fullscreen unit. To do this, enter a part of the path to the section after the domain name starting with the / symbol. To add multiple sections, list them separated by commas, for example: /news,/feed.

These fields help simplify placing the unit code on new website pages: every time a user navigates to a new page, the ad code checks whether it can display fullscreen ads in this section. The ad is displayed if the uploaded page is in the allowed section and there's no violation in the frequency of impressions to a unique user. For more information about fullscreen unit code placement see below.

Note. Don't specify allowed and restricted website sections if you plan to:
      • Display a fullscreen unit on all website pages.
      • Add the unit code to each page separately.
  5. Add advertising formats, set up an impression strategy, and save the unit.
How to place a fullscreen unit code on a website

Get the ad code, which consists of two parts: the loader code and the unit code.

  • The loader code must be inserted inside the <head> tag of all pages where you want to display the fullscreen unit.
  • You can add the unit code to <head> immediately after the ad loader or in <body> of the page.

We recommend adding both codes to <head> of all existing pages, and also to the script that generates <head> for new website pages. This way, you won't have to add the unit code separately to each created page. You can disable impressions of a fullscreen unit on certain pages in the unit settings of the Yandex Advertising Network interface. To do this, specify the allowed or restricted website sections.

You can add a fullscreen unit even if the website doesn't have a separate mobile version. In that case, it will only be displayed for users who visit the website from mobile devices and won't be displayed for desktop users.

You can perform certain actions in response to the user closing the fullscreen unit, such as call another ad unit. To do this, use the onClose callback function.

Floor Ad

The unit is fixed at the bottom of the screen on top of the website content and occupies 100% of the width. It appears 2 seconds after opening the page. The user can close the ad at any time.

The unit contains a preset of ad formats:

  • Adaptive  text and image ads. The height of the unit with text and image ads occupies 25% of the screen width by default. You can set a custom height in the format settings, but it can't be less than 50 pixels. If the selected height exceeds 30% of the screen height at the time of impression on the device, it's automatically reduced to 30%.
Example of a Floor Ad unit with an Adaptive SD format
  • Media ads of the following formats: 320 x 50, 320 x 100, 100% x 90, 100% x 120, 100% x 180, and 100% x 200 pixels. Banners of all sizes from the list are added to the unit by default, but you can disable the impressions for some of them in the format card. The unit size is selected based on the user's device parameters: the unit height can't exceed 25% of the screen width. For example, only 100% x 90 banners can be displayed on a device with a screen width of 360 pixels.
Note. Other media ad sizes aren't supported, though they are still available when you're setting up formats. Even if you choose other sizes in the Yandex Advertising Network interface, they won't be displayed in the Floor Ad unit in the mobile version of the website.

You can't add other formats to the unit.

How to place the Floor Ad unit code on the website
