# Combinatorial ads

**Combinatorial ads** are versatile ad formats powered by the [Smart Design](https://yandex.com/support/partner/en/technologies/smart-design.md) technology, which identifies the most effective ad elements for each user and a specific site layout, dynamically adding text, sitelinks, action buttons, and other assets as needed. As a result, all ads generated by the Smart Design algorithm will look unique.

## Adaptive Smart Design {#adaptive}

The format is available for Banner, Top Ad, Floor Ad, and Overlay ᵝ units.

**Adaptive** ![](../../../_images/sd-label.svg) ads adapt to the container size:

- For the banner, you determine the size of the unit and its container in the layout of the site yourself. For more information about the recommended container sizes and ad unit placement, see [How to use dynamic adaptive ads in Banner](https://yandex.com/support/partner/en/web/units/sizes.md).

- For Top Ad and Floor Ad, the container is created automatically and its size depends on the user's screen settings.

## Fullscreen Smart Design {#fullscreen-sd}

**Interstitial ads** ![](../../../_images/sd-label.svg) include combinatorial ads that display across the entire screen of the user's device. The user can close the ad at any time after the close button appears.
