Getting started

Step 1. Log in

You need a Yandex user account in order to work with Yandex.Metrica. If you don't have one, register.

If you are the owner of an advertising campaign in Yandex.Direct, or your online store is a Yandex.Market partner, we recommend that you log in with the username registered in these services. This allows you to quickly switch between services.

Step 2. Create a counter

Click Add a counter. A page opens with general counter settings.

Note the following sections:

You must specify the site's address.

For more information, Common.

Counter code

Use this section to form the counter code (enable Informer, Session Replay, and so on). For more information, see Common.

Step 3. Install the counter on the site

Tip. To install the counter, we recommend contacting the employee who is responsible for website support.

In the Settings section, go to the Counter code tab and click Copy. Then insert this code into the HTML code of all the site's pages. We recommend inserting it as close to the top of the page as possible — the accuracy and completeness of data calculation depends on this. For more information, see Installing a counter.

After installation, the counter will be available on the My counters page. Data starts being collected immediately. A few minutes after you have installed the code, the My counters page shows the verification status for whether the counter is correctly installed.

Checking the counter code and setting up goals

To check whether the counter code was installed and set up correctly, use the _ym_debug=1 parameter. For more information, see Creating and installing a counter.

Error when installing counter code on a site

You’re probably using the Smarty template engine, which incorrectly processes the curly brackets contained within the counter code.

In order for the JavaScript code to be correctly handled in this template engine, you must enclose the Yandex.Metrica counter code in a special {literal}{/literal} element (see the Smarty documentation) or use the {ldelim}{rdelim} element to escape the curly brackets in the counter code (see the Smarty documentation).

Getting statistics in a YAN counter

The YAN counter code is installed automatically on site pages that contain YAN blocks. To get complete statistics, install the Yandex.Metrica counter code on all the site's pages. You can get the counter code from the Counter Editor page (Counter Code tab).

Here you can enable displaying the click map, accurate bounce rate, and other Yandex.Metrica features. For more information, see Counter code.

Attention. A URL in the format //, i.e. without the http or https prefix is correct. This is not an error.

Installing multiple counters on a site's pages

For more information, see the section Installing multiple counters.

Installing the same counter on multiple sites

Statistics will be collected for all sites that have the counter installed, even if they are not indicated in the Website address and Additional addresses fields (see the section Common). In some reports, such as the Popular report, URLs for these sites are shown in gray.
