    • yandex — For Yandex search.
    • google — For Google search.

Find out which search engines attract the most users to your site

You can find out which search engines bring in more users and which attract fewer. This will help you adjust how your site is promoted in search results.

Compare the engagement of users from different search engines

All of this data can be derived from your website's bounce rate. The higher the bounce rate, the lower user engagement (bounces indicate users who leave within 15 seconds of staying at a single page).

  1. Find the Sessions in which condition group and click .
  2. Select the condition Behavior → Landing page.
  3. Specify the webpage URL.

Excluding branded traffic from the report

To exclude data with brand mentions from the report, use segmentation and add a condition in the format !@your_brand for the Russian and English versions of the brand, where:

  • ! at the beginning — negates the condition.
  • @ at the beginning — matches a string (case-insensitive).

For example, for the company “Alice in Wonderland”, a regular expression may be !@алиса в стране чудес for the Russian name of the brand and !@alice in wonderland for the English name. Using this method, you can remove up to 20 keywords from the report. To exclude more than 20 phrases, create a regular expression with the following syntax !~(brand|бренд.рф|brand.ru).

  • Search query is the user's search query that displayed your site in search results. Search queries might not be shown in the report if traffic over the selected period is less than 10 users and a dimension or segment has been added to the report that potentially de-anonymizes users. For example, “Landing page”, “Age”, etc. The report may also display less information if the search engine does not transmit data to the referrer.

The report supports all settings available in Yandex Metrica.

Yandex Metrica determines the queries that brought visitors from Yandex Search using the referrer and the cookie of the browser. Cookies are placed on the domain that the user goes to from search results. Cookies have a limited period of validity. Yandex Metrica may fail to detect a keyword for the following reasons:

  • The cookie expired. For example, a user clicked a link from search results, left the page open for a long time, and then refreshed or closed it.
  • The page to which the user clicked through from the search results redirected the user to a different domain.
  • The user’s browser blocks cookies.
