Undefined
Sometimes, the line Undefined appears in Yandex Metrica reports. It indicates that there is no data for certain segments of the dimension selected in the report.
Reasons why data might be missing:
- there is no data;
- data was not transmitted to Yandex Metrica;
- data is insufficient for determination;
- technical issues.
The line Undefined is typically hidden if it is not useful for viewing statistics.
Listed below are the most common cases when the line Undefined appears in reports.
Absence of data
The label Undefined may appear if there is no data.
Example:
You are using the Landing page dimension which shows three levels of the path, and the user navigated to a page with an address that has two levels of the path:
https://example.com/level_1/level_2
The report will display the following data:
- Landing page, level 1 —
level_1
. - Landing page, level 2 —
level_2
. - Landing page, level 3 —
Undefined
.
Insufficient data for determination
In some dimensions, such as Gender or Age, a sufficient amount of data must accumulate to determine their belonging to a particular segment.
This category may also include, for example, Browser: if it is new or rare, there may not be enough data for its classification.
Technical issues
Data may not be passed due to technical issues:
- On the website. For example, data may be transmitted incorrectly when using a non-standard version of the tag code. Therefore, in some dimensions, the line Undefined will appear.
- On the side of your site’s user. For example, when using an outdated or non-standard browser that does not pass all data, or in case of issues with internet stability and speed.
Data was not transmitted
The most common reason data may be missing is if it was not transmitted to Yandex Metrica.
Some Yandex Metrica dimensions, such as Goals, E-commerce, Event parameters, Session parameters, or UTM tags, work on data transmitted from your site. For such dimensions to work, data must be transmitted from the site and actually be present there.
List of articles that can help solve technical issues:
- E-commerce
- Session parameters and Event parameters
- UTM, From, and Openstat tags
- Content Analytics
- Calls
- Monetization
- Expenses
Use the debug panel to check whether the data transfer settings are correct.
