Funnels
Funnel is a report that shows how users go through a specified set of steps over a certain period.
The Funnel report allows you to:
- assess the effectiveness of the user journey from the first to the last step;
- analyze user behavior at different stages;
- identify in which segments there are efficiency issues.
Creating and setting up a funnel
To create a funnel, do the following:
-
In the side menu, go to the Reports tab.
-
At the bottom of the page, click Create report → Funnel.
-
In the window that opens, specify the settings:
-
Funnel name
-
Funnel window
You can choose an unlimited funnel period or specify the time within which the user must complete all steps:
-
Unlimited window: the report will include all users who started the funnel within the specified interval.
-
Limited window: set the funnel completion time in seconds, minutes, hours, or days. The maximum period for the funnel is 360 days.
-
Funnel steps
Add funnel steps:
- Click the Add step button.
- If you want to rename a step, click its name and enter the new one.
- Click Add condition and select the condition for achieving the step.
- Add the next step.
The sequence of created steps can be changed by moving the step blocks in the list.
-
-
Click Save.
Created funnels are saved in the Funnels section and in General reports.
Adding conditions
Note
You can use up to three conditions in one step.
These conditions are combined using the OR logical operator. This means that the step is achieved if at least one of the conditions is met. To switch between or and and, click the operator you need.
If all conditions are combined using and, it means the step will be achieved only if all conditions are met.
Page views
You can use it to track views for specific pages. By default, the condition uses exact matching. For fuzzy matching, mark the rows with special characters:
Operator |
Description |
Example |
|
Matches any number of any characters, case-sensitive. |
|
|
Matches a string, case-insensitive. |
|
|
Regular expression mode. |

Achieving JS goal
Use this condition to count when specific goals are achieved. To do this, first list these goals.
Event parameters
Use it to transmit a specific site parameter. To do this, select the desired parameter from the drop-down list. If you need to track the value of a specific parameter, select it from the drop-down list that appears after the parameter.
Report structure and settings
Funnels, like all Yandex Metrica reports, consist of a dashboard, a chart, and a table.
To view a report:
- In the side menu, go to the Reports → Funnel tab.
- Select the desired funnel from the list.
In the report, you can set the date, choose grouping by parameters, and specify the conversion accounting type.
Dimensions
Using the Dimensions field, you can choose in which segments you want to view the funnel. You can select up to 7 dimensions or leave the field empty. Funnel data is generated from events such as page views, parameters, completed JavaScript goals, and others.
The table displays steps broken down by areas in the selected dimensions. By default, the chart displays the total values by dimension, but you can display data on the chart only for the segment you are interested in. By choosing dimensions and changing their order in the list, you can customize the display of rows in the table: change the nesting of elements in the rows and the default display on the chart.
Conversions
In the conversion management field, you can choose one of the options:
- Conversion from the first step: all funnel steps will be considered as the ratio of the viewed step to the first step.
- Conversion from the previous step: all funnel steps will be considered as the ratio of the viewed step to the previous one. In this mode, the chart also displays losses from step to step as a pale area in the column.
In the upper right corner of the report, you can change the funnel settings, specify the sample, and save the report.
