Quick start
To create a tag yourself:
Step 1. Log in
To work with Yandex Metrica, you need a Yandex ID. If you don't have one, you first need to sign up.
If you are the owner of an advertising campaign in Yandex Direct, or your online store is a Yandex Market partner, we recommend that you log in with the username registered in these services. This allows you to quickly switch between services.
Step 2. Create a tag
Click Add tag. This will open the tag creation page. Fill out the form.
For more information, see Creating and installing tags.
Step 3. Install the tag on your website
Tip
To install the tag, we recommend contacting the employee who is responsible for website support.
In the Settings section, go to the Tag tab and click Copy. Then insert this code into the HTML code of all the site’s pages. We recommend inserting it as close to the top of the page as possible — the accuracy and completeness of data calculation depends on this. For more information, see the section Installing a tag.
After installation, the tag will be available on the My tags page. The tag immediately starts collecting data.
What's next?
Familiarize yourself with the tools that can be connected to your tag and make your work with Yandex Metrica more effective. To do this, go to Settings → Setup assistant.
There you can:
- Learn about new tools and reports in Yandex Metrica.
- Find instructions on connecting those tools to your tag.
Questions and answers
Making sure the tag is placed on the site and data is collected
You can check whether the tag code is installed correctly and whether statistics are collected.
Checking goal settings
You can check if the goals are set correctly using the _ym_debug=2
parameter. For more information, see Checking a goal.
Getting statistics in a YAN tag
The YAN tag code is installed automatically on site pages that contain YAN units. To get complete statistics, install the Yandex Metrica code snippet on all the site's pages. You can get the code snippet on the Settings page (Tag).
Here you can enable displaying the click map, accurate bounce rate, and other Yandex Metrica features. For more information, see Basic and additional tag settings.
Installing multiple tags on site’s pages
To learn more about this, see Installing multiple tags on a site.
Installing the same tag on multiple sites
Statistics will be collected for all sites that have the tag installed, even if they are not indicated in the Website address and Additional addresses fields (see the section Basic and additional tag settings). In some reports, such as the Popular report, URLs for these sites are shown in gray.

If you don't place the counter code on all the site's pages, Yandex Metrica will interpret a user as appearing on the site and then disappearing — statistics will show distorted data.
