Category reports
These reports allow you to get general statistics on categories and compare them with each other.
Categories reflect the hierarchy of a site. Unlike topics, the possible number of categories on a site is limited to their nesting levels (currently two levels are displayed in statistics).
To view the reports, go to Content → Categories. To go to a report on a specific category, click its name. Top-level categories are displayed by default. You can switch between levels.
Note
At the moment, the statistics shows two levels of category nesting.
To ensure that statistics are collected and displayed correctly, make sure that the site's content is marked up in accordance with the recommendations (Schema.org or Open Graph).
What reports can be used for
Find out which categories are effective and which are not
- Analyze the page depth and the category’s audience engagement metrics. If most of the content under the category is poorly read, it might mean that it isn’t interesting, and you should stop all activity in the category or spend less effort on it. You should pay more attention to popular categories with high engagement.
Understand what the audience is interested in
- High page depth and engagement metrics help you understand what topics readers are interested in. You can track the dynamics of your audience's interests: what they're interested in now and what they were interested in last month or quarter.
Determine the best author for a certain topic
- The Popular authors widget lets you see whose content on a specific topic is more popular with your readers.
See who reads category content and how they do it
-
Study the category audience data: gender and age of users. This will help you understand who the main readers of the category content are. By focusing on them, you can change the way information is presented or the style of text.
Look at page formats to understand which of them is preferable to work with.
