# 4.3. Mapping rules: Poland

## 4.3.1 Rules for adding attributes to administrative divisions {#4.3.1}

For general rules, see [3.2.2. Rules for attribution of administrative units](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_adm_rul2.md#cat_adm_rul2).

Type (level) of administrative division (see section [3.2.2.1. Select the type (level](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_adm_rul2.md#3.2.2.1)) by adhering to these equivalents:

- Voivodeship — analogous to region (level 2)

- Powiat — analogous to district (level 3) If a map item is an administrative center, mark <q>Center</q> (for that district).

- Gmina — analogous to settlement (level 3) If a map item is an urban or rural settlement, indicate that in its official name. Do not mark the <q>Center</q> option.

- Miasto — a locality; translate as <q>city</q>.

- Wieś — a locality; translate as <q>village</q>.

- Kolonia — a locality; translate as <q>settlement</q>.

- Osada — a locality; translate as <q>town</q>.

    {% note info %}

    Sometimes the factory that the village centered around is no longer in operation, but the area's status as a locality has remained.

    {% endnote %}

- Przysiółek —translate as farmstead.

    {% note info %}

    Farmsteads consist of agricultural land that is privately owned and contains residential buildings.<q></q><q></q>

    {% endnote %}

- Dzielnica — city district.

- Osiedle — subdistrict (type — block).

- Rodzinny Ogród Działkowy — locality, gardening areas.

    If there is no proper name, use _ogr. dz_ for the caption in Polish.__

{% note info %}

All words in names of items should be written using uppercase letters.__

{% endnote %}

## 4.3.2. Rules for adding attributes to roads. {#4.3.2}

For general rules, see [3.3.2. Rules for adding attributes to road sections](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul2.md#cat_road_rul2), [3.3.2.1. Class](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul2.md#type).

**4.3.2.1** {#4.3.2.1}

: In Poland, types of roads are capitalized.

**4.3.2.2** {#4.3.2.2}

: Only enter names in the <q>For caption on map</q> type in cases where abbreviations are commonly used.

**4.3.2.3** {#4.3.2.3}

: When you enter the class for a section of road, there are certain class-specific attribute selection rules you must follow:

:   **4.3.2.3.1 Freeways (class 1)**

    : Motorways are labeled with the letter **A**.

    **4.3.2.3.2 National highways (class 2)** {#4.3.2.3.2}

    : National highways include roads located under the jurisdiction of the DDKiA (Generalna dyrekcja dróg krajowych i autostrad) that are called <q>republic roads</q> (droga krajowa) and have two-digit indexes. These roads are of crucial significance in connecting the centers of voivodeships or leading to major international border-control stations at national borders.

    **4.3.2.3.3 Interregional Roads (class 3)** {#4.3.2.3.3}

    : These types of items include:

        - All remaining <q>republic roads</q> (droga krajowa) with two-digit indexes. These roads connect provinces or lead to international border-control stations of secondary significance at national borders (other than local stations).

        - Frontage roads that run parallel to tollways (such as the DK91, DK94, or DK44).

        - Roads included in European routes and/or that connect the road network with neighboring countries.

        - Major motorways under the jurisdiction of the DDKia (Generalna dyrekcja dróg krajowych i autostrad) that are called <q>republic roads</q> (droga krajowa) and have two-digit indexes. This category also includes roads under the jurisdiction of the voivodeship road management (droga wojewódzka) that have three-digit indexes and play a key role in connecting republic roads and/or neighboring voivodeships.

    **4.3.2.3.4 Regional roads (class 4)** {#4.3.2.3.4}

    : These types of items include:

        - Other international roads or major intraregional roads.

        - Other motorways under the jurisdiction of the DDKia (Generalna dyrekcja dróg krajowych i autostrad) or the voivodeship road management (droga wojewódzka) that have three-digit indexes and play a key role in connecting areas with a voivodeship and providing access to cities with populations of at least 10,000.

    **4.3.2.3.5 District roads (Class 5)** {#4.3.2.3.5}

    : This class includes motorways under the jurisdiction of the voivodeship road management (droga wojewódzka) that have three-digit indexes with the following exceptions:

        - Roads that have lost their status even though they have kept their numbers

        - Access roads to stations

        - Access roads to former ferry crossings

        - Sections of road that have historical significance and are not paved

    **4.3.2.3.6 District roads (class 6)** {#4.3.2.3.}

    : This class includes motorways under the jurisdiction of the powiat road management (droga powiatowa) that have four-digit indexes with the **P** prefix: This includes roads without numbers that play a key role in connecting class-5 roads.

**4.3.2.4** {#4.3.2.4}

: Speed limits (for general rules, see [3.3.2.8. Speed limit](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul2.md#speed_limit)) set the speed limit for the road section (in km/h).

    The default limits for vehicles and motorcycles in Poland are as follows:

    - In localities ─ 50 km/hr (60 km/hr from 11 pm to 6 am)
    - Outside localities (on roads with only one lane in each direction) — 90 km/hr
    - Outside localities (on roads with twp lanes in each direction) — 100 km/hr
    - On motorways (with one lane in each direction) — 100 km/hr
    - On motorways (with two lanes in each direction) — 120 km/hr
    - On highways ─ 140 km/h
