# 2.7.1. General rules for drawing polygonal items

Sections of an item that are straight lines are drawn using two vertexes (for the beginning and ending points):

**Correct**

**Incorrect**

|

||

|#

The green arrows on the drawing below show correct usage; the red ones — incorrect usage (because there are too many vertexes):

Sections of items that are not straight should be drawn using as few vertexes as possible while maintaining the smoothness of the outline at all [map scales](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/map-control_2.2.3.md#map-control_2.2.3) (all the way to 18):

**Incorrect**

|#

The green arrows on the drawing show correct usage; the red ones — incorrect usage (because there are not enough vertexes to make the outline sufficiently smooth):

{% note info %}

You can't apply the [Round all corners](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/contur1.md#contur1) operation to items in the Administrative division category, but you can draw administrative division borders along the rounded contours of hydrographic items and island coastlines.
