item (usually an organization), a category selection menu appears:
|
|
Select a category from the menu. Then the attribute panel for the map item opens:
Note
Click Change category to change the category of the item you are adding or editing as needed:

Attribution panels include:

3.6.2.1.2. Organization in Yandex Business
The Yandex Business business attribute connects the organization on the map to its listing in Yandex Business .
As you're filling out the field, the organization list appears. The list shows all the organizations up to 400 meters from the created point that have the same type and a Yandex Business entry:

If the organization you're looking for is not on the list, enter its name in the Name field (see below for more information).
Note
You can (but don't have to) fill out the Organization in Yandex Business field for organizations drawn outside the Indoor maps.
3.6.2.1.3. Category
The Category attribute lets you provide a more detailed description of what business an organization is involved in. This connects the organization's line of business with the category in Yandex Business .
To enter a category, click Category and select a value from the drop-down list.
You must indicate the organization's category.
If the organization's line of business fits into several categories, select the one that matches their main business activity. For instance, if a clothing store also sells some shoes, select the clothing store
category.
If you can't determine what an organization's main line of business is, try getting as close as possible and entering one of two suitable categories.
See the Location and organization classification scheme appendix for more information about categories.
3.6.2.1.4. Name
3.6.2.1.4.1. Rules for choosing names
-
Items are named in accordance with the general rules (see 3.1.3. Map item naming rules).
Alert
An organization's official name can contain up to 100 characters (or more if approved).
The caption name can contain up to 55 characters (except for special cases in which you can use up to 75 characters).
-
When naming organizations, preference is given to brand names (as well as names on signage or those that refer to the organization's specialization (for example, Construction materials).
Alert
If you known an organization's legal structure, specify it in the
Also known as, historical
field. Always specify the legal structure as an abbreviation (such as PAO, MAO).In general, set the name indicated by the organization owner or on the sign as the main (official) name. In the caption name, enter the abbreviated version of the organization's main name. Don't use words that aren't required to identify an item (for example, state, municipal, city). Alternately, use common abbreviations (MSU, MSTU, RAS).
The name indicated by the organization owner may only be assigned by the service's employees and should satisfy the rules for naming Locations in Yandex Map Editor (for example, for the Queen chess club, the name Chess сlub is allowed, but Queen chess club isn't).
Follow these rules when naming organizations:
-
-
If a the registered name and brand name are both known, then enter the brand name as the official name and enter the registered name in the
also known as, historical
field. For example: official name — Magnit, caption name — Magnit,
also known as, historical
— Tander, AO. -
If an organization only has а registration name (in particular, the full name of the organization owner or employee), set it as the official name and enter the registered name in the
also known as, historical
field.Note
If the person's full name is part of the brand name, include this full name as part of the official name.
For example:
Official name
Also known as, historical name type
Construction materials
Builders, Inc.
Housewares
Ivanov A. A.
Lena's Beauty Salon
not attributed
For private specialists, enter the specialist's field, last name, and initials as the official name.
Examples:
- Notary Ivanov I.I..
- Insurance agent Ivanov I.I. (Don't mention the names of official insurance companies for private insurance agents. For example, Alice Liddell Insurance, insurance agent Ivanov is unacceptable).
- Acme representative Ivanov I.I..
Use lowercase letters when indicating ranks and professions of famous personalities in official names. For example, The prof. Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute).
In the caption name, omit the nominal part, profession, or rank. Shorten the word
imeni
("named after") toim.
. -
The organization name shouldn't refer to its activity type.
Also don't specify terms and expressions like
dealer
,authorized dealer
,official service
,partner
,special representative
,company store
,official center
,network
,company
, andfirm
in the name.Exceptions to this rule:
- Organizations with an activity type that is inseparable from the item's proper name logically or according to the rules of the language in which the name is being set (such as Ensky medical center).
- Item names that are a toponym (such as Ensk Driving School) or an adjective derived from a toponym.
- Companies with the same name in a single building or area as part of a single complex item (such as Hypermarket Alice, Restaurant Alice).
- One of the terms listed above is part of the company's proper name.
- You can use the terms
Group of companies
andHolding
if the legal entities are economically subordinate to each other.
-
Unnamed organizations are given the name of their category as their official name (except for items in the category
Yard and park infrastructure
, which shouldn't have a name, and items listed in the table Location and organization names). If the organization doesn't have a proper name and is only identified by its type of activity (it has a narrow specialization or can't be clearly categorized), then enter its type (specialization) as its official name. For example: Shoe repair, Locksmith, Zipper repair, Baggage pay desk.
If an organization has several specializations that can't all fit into the official name field (for example, if the list includes three or more types of services), then use a general term to describe them all. For example: Repair shop.
If the organization's signage highlights one particular service, then enter that service as the official name. For example:

If the activity type is missing from the list of suggested categories, refer to it in the item's name to clarify the narrow specialization, write it before the item's proper name without abbreviations (for example, Capsule Hotel Alice), and omit it completely in the caption name (Alice).
Note
If the organization's name describes its activities but doesn't fully match the name of the relevant category, then its name isn't a proper name.
For example, for an organization named
Butcher shop
, specify the standard official name from the Location and organization names appendix (Meat
).If a company has a number or letter as an identifier instead of a proper name, set both the item type and its number or letter in the official name field (such as Driving school No. 2).
-
Don't write item names using only uppercase (capital) letters, except for abbreviations (such as MSU, HSE, MoMA, LSE) and word forms that consist only of capital letters and are not abbreviations (such as AAA-Motors).
If the name on the sign is written in all caps, specify it according to language rules. For example, start the first word with a capital letter and the remaining words with lowercase. However, at the owner's request, we may use a name that's not written in accordance with language rules (such as each word capitalized, even though only the first word should be capitalized, according to the rules).
Do not use special characters or emojis (ideograms) in names even if they are used in the trademark.
Note
Special characters are those entered on a standard keyboard using key combinations (
alt codes
).If an organization uses capital letters in the middle of its name, or every word in its name is written with a capital letter, you can write it that way on the map provided the name does not have two or more capital letters in a row.
For example: Mebel Chernozemya, Finn Flare, Farfor, SushiVesla, KulinAria, StroyMashServis, Krasnoe&Beloe, Burger King, Shaggy Dog.
-
The spelling of words in organizations' proper names should conform with norms of the language you are using.
-
You can write a company's name in lowercase on the map if it's part of the brand.
For example: oodji, iPhone.
-
Restrooms should have the Toilet caption. Don't specify women's, men's, or any other type.
-
Places of interest, such as architectural monuments and engineering structures, don't use additional terms to reflect their current status, including
house
,building
, andformer
.For example:
Correct
Incorrect
The Women's Hospital of the Holy Trinity Community of Sisters of Mercy
The Women's hospital building of the Holy Trinity Community of Sisters of Mercy
The Alexander Hospital
The Former Alexander Hospital
As an exception, you can use additional terms when they are directly connected with the proper name of the place and serve for word agreement. For example, Rukavishnikov House and Pushnikov Chambers.
-
The name should not contain information about the company's address, the closest metro station, or any other references to the company's location (such as Alice-service Enskoe Highway).
-
Don't add business hours or a status to organization names (such as
We're open
,former
,temporarily closed
,doesn't work
, andabandoned
).In exceptional cases, service's employees may include the under construction status in the names of large business centers, shopping malls, residential complexes, and stadiums that are under construction. In this case, the under construction status is specified in parentheses after the item's proper name. For example, BC Alice (under construction).
-
Company names shouldn't contain ads, including if the following is added to the organization's main name:
-
Product names, country of manufacture (Alice, children's books by English writers).
-
Ad slogans (Alice — Territory of natural cosmetics).
-
Lists of products or services (Real estate agency, evaluation, sale, rental).
-
Clarifications about products (Alice, aquarium and terrarium store).
-
References to an action related to the type of activity expressed by a verb. For example, don't set names like Laying parquet flooring, buying scrap, and installing stretch ceilings, though you can set names like Construction and finishing works, Scrap purchase, and Stretch and suspended ceilings.
-
Names of popular brands if the company is not an office or franchisee of the brand (such as Acme Internet Connection, aLice Repair, Cheshire Cat Delivery).
-
Words like
sale
,discounts
,cheap
,wholesale, and retail
.Names can contain a natural mention of one product (such as_Fashionable windows, Ensky cosmetics_).
-
-
Set names for sales offices of residential complexes using one of the following formats: [Residential complex name, sales office] or [Developer name, sales office].
-
In the names of organizations with the
Car dealership
,Car service, auto repair
, orAuto parts and auto goods store
category, you can only include one car make. Name format: [Dealer name], [Car brand].In the full names of car dealerships, you can use general (North, South) or colloquial toponyms.__
You can supplement the full name with the clarification
cars with mileage
instead of or together with the make if there are several companies with similar names nearby. For example: AutoBestseller, cars with mileage. The use of uppercase (capital) and lowercase letters in the spelling of brand names should match the spelling on auto.ru.
-
For Orthodox Christian churches, use the term
church
in the official name.In the caption name, you can also use the term
church
if it is used in the commonly accepted name of a religious institution. -
For items that share the same name and belong in the
Education
category (for example, several buildings belonging to the same school), regardless of whether they are located on the same territory or on different ones, the official name is supplemented with one of the following:- Type of activity, if known (Directorate, Admission committee, Study classes, and so on).
- Building number or other identifier confirmed by the official website of the organization.
- House number, in the absence of other identifiers (for example, School No. 2345, building 23c5).
-
3.6.2.1.4.2. Name formatting
- Rules and examples of entering names:
3.6.2.1.4.2.1. Official name
-
Official name — required for all items (except for items belonging to the
Yard and park infrastructure
type).Follow these rules when setting official names:
-
Enter only the item's proper name in the Official name field when one of these conditions applies:
-
It doesn't grammatically overlap with the item type.
-
The category or type of the item contains the organization type without additional elaborations: for example,
Indian restaurant
.In such cases, preferably add the
Also known as, historical
name in the [item type + proper name] format. If the activity name clarifies the item type (such as pub for the
Bar, pub
category), only set the item's proper name in its official name.See examples 1, 4, 12, and 33.
-
-
Use only the item's proper name as the official name when the item has both a number (ID) and a proper name (applies to items in these types: Food, Auto, Trade, Finance, Yard and park infrastructure, Sports, or the Drug store and Optician subtypes). In this case, you can specify the item's name, number, and type as a name of the
Also known as, historical
type.See example 2.
-
Include both the proper name and item type in the Official name field when the proper name is grammatically connected to the item type.
See example 3.
-
Include the proper name, number (ID), and item type in the official name when the item has both a number (ID) and a proper name (applies to items in these types: Culture and attractions, Education and science, State and society, Religion, Businesses and services, Construction and realty, Production and materials, Leisure and travel, and Medicine and pharmaceutics).
See examples 25 and 26.
-
For all item types except
Yard and park infrastructure
, enter only the item type in the Official name field when the item lacks a proper name.See examples in Location and organization names (standard names of map items that have no proper names, depending on the activity).
-
If an object belongs to the
Yard and park infrastructure
type and doesn't have a name, only specify its official name if it elaborates on the item's function. For example, Volleyball court, Basketball court. Don't set an official name for such an item if it doesn't elaborate on its function. For example, the official name can't be Sports ground, Playground, Dumpsters. -
If data for an organization in the
Finance
category (such as department, branch, numbered or unnumbered operational cash registers, and so on) doesn't correspond to its activity type, you can add it to the organization's official name. The item's proper name always comes before its official name. The clarifications are written last, separated by a comma.See examples 7, 8, 9.
-
If a bank has both a full name and an abbreviation/portmanteau, the official name uses the full version, while the caption uses the shortened version.
See examples 10 and 11.
-
If an organization name consists of the name of its activity and the full name of its owner or specialist, write the name as follows (excluding brand names):
- Official name: the type of business activity specified based on the table of standard names for places and businesses, and the full name (the first name and the patronymic should be written as initials)
- Signature name: business activity specified based on the table for standard names of places and businesses.
See examples 31 and 32.
-
Attractions of architectural value can display their year(s) of construction. If a century is specified in the attraction's name, it can be substituted with the years of construction.
Any additional information specified for items with proper names should come after a comma. Years and centuries use arabic numbers. If there are more than two construction dates, please only specify the two oldest ones.
See examples 28 and 29.
-
3.6.2.1.4.2.2. Map caption name
-
For caption on map — must be specified if it's different from the official name. If the names are the same, specifying it is not mandatory, but still preferrable.
Follow these rules when setting caption names:
-
Use only the item's proper name as the caption when it's not grammatically connected to the item type.
See examples 1, 2, 7, 8, 9.
-
Enter only the item's proper name in the For caption on map field when the item has both a number (ID) and a proper name (applies to items in these types: Food, Auto, Trade, Finance, Yard and park infrastructure, Sports, or the Drug store and Optician subtypes).
See example 2.
-
Include both the item's proper name and type in the caption when the proper name is grammatically connected to the item type.
See example 3.
-
Include the proper name, number (ID), and item type in the For caption on map field when the item has both a number (ID) and a proper name (applies to items in these types: Culture and attractions, Education and science, State and society, Religion, Businesses and services, Construction and realty, Production and materials, Leisure and travel, and Medicine and pharmaceutics, but doesn't include the Drug store and Optician subtypes).
See examples 25 and 26.
-
Include both the type and number (ID) in the caption when the item has only these elements.
See example 27.
-
Enter only the item type in the For caption on map field when the item lacks a proper name and the item type doesn't match its business activity. It doesn't need the For caption on map name if the item type matches the category.
See examples 5 and 6.
-
If a bank has both a full name and an abbreviation/portmanteau, the caption uses the shortened version.
See examples 10 and 11.
-
If a government, educational, cultural, or medical facility does not have its own name or number, the caption should specify the locality (urban or rural) it belongs to.
See examples 13, 14, 15.
-
For complex companies occupying a large area (such as hospitals, universities, sanatoriums, and sports and commercial companies with well-established well-known names), there are special rules for naming buildings:
-
If an organization divided into multiple subsidiaries (for example, a university with its buildings, departments, and dorms; a factory or hospital with its departments and buildings; and so on) occupies a single area, write the names of the subsidiaries as follows:
- Official: Name of the parent organization, name of the child organization.
- For signature: Name of the child organization.
See examples 16, 17, 18.
-
When items on an organization's property aren't actually organizations or serve as supporting infrastructure (such as monuments, yard infrastructure, or industrial infrastructure), format their names as follows:
- Official: item name
- Caption: item name
See example 35.
-
If the subsidiary is located on different territories, the name of the parent organization is saved in the name for the signature.
See example 19.
-
-
If a large parent company has independent branches with their own names (e.g. city-level universities that are branches of a federal university, or local hospitals subordinate to a regional hospital), then the names of those branches should be specified in the following manner:
- Official: Name of the parent organization, name of the branch.
- Name for caption: Name of the branch.
See example 20.
-
For chain or similar organizations located on different territories, if the name of the parent organization is actually used much more actively than the names of the child organization, names are formatted as follows:
- Official: Name of the parent organization, name of the child organization.
- Name for caption: Name of the parent organization.
See example 34.
-
If several organizations share the same name, territory, and subcategory (e.g. Factories and industrial enterprises), please include their abbreviated item type in the official name.
See examples 21, 22, 23, 24.
-
If the years/centuries of construction are specified in the proper name for an attraction of architectural value, the attraction's caption name should be written as follows:
- If the item has a proper name, then it should be the same as a caption name.
- If the item doesn't have a proper name, then the caption name should be shortened and include the item's construction period taken from the proper name.
See examples 28 and 29.
