# 3.2. Administrative divisions

<q>Administrative divisions</q> are units that make up the system of government. Enter administrative divisions in accordance with their borders.

When you edit administrative division borders, make **sure not to delete existing divisions**. Other map items may be connected to them (such as [roads](https://yandex.com/support/mapeditor/en/cat_road_rul3.md#3.3.3.1)), and these connections can get destroyed if you delete administrative divisions.

If the shape of an administrative division is incorrect, you should edit the **existing border**.
