3.6.3. Rules for adding attributes to items in the Food and Finance categories

When you create a “Location” item (usually an organization), a category selection menu appears.

Information about the type and location of “Food” items is stored in Yandex.Maps.

All the other information about these items (operational hours, contact information, etc.) is stored in the Yandex Business Directory (our online catalogue for various organizations).

Because of this disparity, the attribute panel for “Food” objects includes two separate information blocks:

When creating a new item, only the fields in the Yandex Map Editor block should be edited (see section 3.6.3.1. Yandex Map Editor block).

When editing the Yandex Business Directory block (see section 3.6.3.2. the Yandex Business Directory block) the suggested edits will then have to be checked by the Yandex Business Directory moderation team. You can see the edits' examination status in the edit list (see section 2.10.10. Notifications for authors).

3.6.3.1. The Yandex Map Editor block

To place an item of the Location and Food types on the map, click the Create button, and choose the Food type in the new window. The attribute panel for the map item opens:

This panel only contains the attributes that can be set and edited in the Yandex Map Editor:

Click Save after setting the attributes' values. The item will then be saved on the map. If you try to edit the newly created item, an extra block titled Information from the YBD will appear. (see section 3.6.3.2. the Yandex Business Directory block).

3.6.3.1.1. Type

Click the checkbox on the right edge of the field to open the object type list:

3.6.3.1.2. Organization's entry in the Yandex Business Directory

The Organization's entry in the Yandex Business Directory attribute is needed to link the organization's point on the map

with the organization's entry in the Yandex Business Directory.

When you fill out the field, the organization list appears. The list shows all the organizations 400 meters away from the created point that have the same type and a Yandex Business Directory entry:

If the organization you're looking for is not in the list, enter its name in the Name field (see below for more information).

3.6.3.1.3. Heading

The Category attribute lets you provide a more detailed description of what business an organization is involved in. This connects the organization's line of business with the category in Yandex Business Directory.

To enter a category, click on the Category field and select the appropriate value from the drop-down list.

You must indicate the organization's category.

If the organization's line of business fits into several categories, select the one that matches their main business. For instance, if a clothing store also sells some shoes on the side, their main category should still be “clothing store”.

If you can't determine what an organization's main line of business is, try getting as close as possible and entering one of two suitable categories.

See the Location and organization classification scheme appendix for more information about categories.

3.6.3.1.4. Name

Rules and examples of entering names:

  • Official name — must be entered and specifies:
    • — Only the item's proper name in cases where the item name doesn't include the type name and fully fits its own category. For such cases, you should also enter the “Also known as, historical” name variation, which consists of [the item's type + proper name].

      See example 1.

    • The item's proper name and item type in cases where the item's proper name grammatically overlaps with the item type (including numbered items), or if the item type doesn't fully fit its own category.

      See examples 2, 3, and 4.

    • — Only the item type for cases when the item doesn't have its own proper name.

See examples 7-18 (standard names of map items that have no proper names, depending on the category).

    • If some of the data pertaining to a “Finance” organization's item type (such as department, branch, numbered or unnumbered operational cash registers, etc.) doesn't fit its category, it can be clarified in the organization's official name. The item's proper name always comes before its official name. The clarifications are written last, separated by a comma.

      See examples 19, 20, 21.

    • If a bank has both a full name and an abbreviation/portmanteau, the official name uses the full version, while the caption uses the shortened version.

      See examples 22 and 23.

  • Name for caption on map should contain:
    • — Only the item's proper name if it doesn't grammatically overlap with the item type, even if the caption name coincides with the official one (this includes items that have both a proper name and a numbered label).

      Se. examples 1, 2, 19, 20, 21.

    • The item's proper name and item type in cases when the item's proper name grammatically overlaps with the item type.

      See example 3.

    • — Only the item type for cases when the item doesn't have a proper name and the item type doesn't match the category. It doesn't need the For caption on map name if the item type matches the category.

      See examples 5 and 6.

    • If a bank has both a full name and an abbreviation/portmanteau, the caption uses the shortened version.

      See examples 22 and 23.

The suggested changes will then be examined by the Yandex Business Directory moderation team. You can see the edits' examination status in the edits list (see section 2.10.10. Notifying authors).

The organization's card will still be displaying outdated information until the moderation process is completed. After the suggested information goes through the moderation process, the organization's card will be updated and the new information will finally appear on Yandex.Maps.
