Managing contacts
To manage contacts in Yandex.Mail, use the address book. To open it, click
on the top panel.
If you're a part of a company, your address book has the Personal contacts and Shared contacts groups. The Shared contacts group contains email addresses of all employees in your company.
Add a contact
The address book is automatically created from the addresses that you have corresponded with in the past. If you don't want to add contacts automatically, open the Contacts menu, turn off Add contacts automatically, and save your changes.
If you're a part of a company, contacts from your emails are automatically grouped under Personal contacts.
You can also add an address manually using the following methods:
- In the address book interface. Click Add contact, fill in the information, and save changes.
- In the contact card on the email reading page. Open the message and left-click on the sender's name. In the window that opens, click Add to Contacts.
If the contact name is not specified clearly and the recipient replied to you, the address book will use the name that the recipient specified in their mail settings.
Change a contact
You can change contact information — name, email address, phone number, and date of birth — using one of the following methods:
- In the address book interface. Choose a contact from the list and click Edit, enter new contact information, and save changes.
- In the contact card on the email reading page. Open the message and left-click on the sender's name. In the new window, click Edit, enter the new contact information, and save changes.
Delete contact
To remove a contact from the address book, click on their profile picture in the list and select Delete in the top menu.

Write an email to a group of contacts
To send messages to several contacts at the same time without entering their addresses, you can put contacts into groups and then you will only need to enter the group's name in the To field.
Adding a contact to a group
- Select the contacts you need.
- Click Add to group.
- Select the group you need from the list or create a new one.
Removing contacts from groups
- Open the group you need from the list on the left side of the page.
- Select the contacts you want to remove from the group.
- Click Remove from group.
Configuring groups
Any group can be renamed or deleted. To access the settings, hover over the group name in the list of groups on the left. Click the customize link that appears. You can also configure contact groups in the menu.

Importing and exporting contacts
vCard format files are used to import and export contacts between the Yandex.Mail address book and other mail services and clients.
To export contacts from your Yandex.Mail address book, go to the Contacts section and click the More button in the top menu, and then select Save contacts to file. In the window that opens, click Save. All personal contacts from your address book will be saved to your computer as a vCard file.
To import contacts to your Yandex.Mail address book, go to the top menu of the Contacts section, click More and select Import contacts from file. Open the desired vCard file and click Save.
Exporting contacts from different email clients
- Click Address book.
- In the Address Book, open.
- Enter a file name, select the vCard format, and choose a path to save the file to.
- Click Save. The saved file can be imported to the Yandex.Mail address book or any other mail program.
- Open.
- In the address book, open.
- Enter a file name, select the Vcard electronic business card (.VCF) format, and choose a path to save the file.
- Click Save. The saved file can be imported to the Yandex.Mail address book or any other mail program.
Synchronizing contacts with a mobile device
You can synchronize contacts with your smartphone's address book. Smartphone contacts will be displayed in the Phone contacts group of your Yandex.Mail when you connect to the Internet (the group is created automatically when you first synchronize the devices). To display Yandex.Mail contacts on a mobile device, add them to this group.
Contacts are synchronized via CardDAV protocol. CardDAV is an Internet protocol for synchronizing address books with a mobile device. A CardDAV account can be configured with standard smartphone tools or via a third-party application.
Select your mobile device's platform:
- Step 1. Create an app password

- Go to Account Management in Yandex ID.
- Under Passwords and authorization, click Enable app passwords. Confirm the action.
- Click Create a new password.
- Click Contacts and come up with a password name. For example, you may enter the name of the app you're creating the password for. The password will be displayed in the list under this name.
- Click Create. The app password will be displayed in a pop-up window.Restriction. You can only see the created password once. If you entered it incorrectly and closed the window, delete the current password and create a new one.
- Step 2. Configure the app for syncing

- Download and install an app that can work with the CardDAV protocol, for example, DAVx5 (this is a paid app).Note. The following instructions are for DAVx 5. For other apps, some steps may be different.
- Open the app and tap ➕ in the lower-right corner.
- Go to Add account and select Log in with URL and username.
- Set the following parameters:
- Basic URL:

- User name:
your_login@yandex.ru
- Password: The app password created in the previous step
- Click.
- Step 3. Add contacts from Yandex.Mail to phone contacts

- Create a new contact with any name on your mobile device. When creating it, select CardDAV in the Save to your account section.
- Go to Contacts in the Yandex.Mail settings.
- Add the required contacts to the Phone contacts group.
- Open the Contacts app on your mobile device.
- Swipe the screen up to update the address book.
- Step 1. Create an app password

- Click New account.
- Select Other from the list.
- Select CardDAV account.
- Set the following parameters:

- Tap Next.

- Create a new contact with any name on your mobile device.
- Go to Contacts in the Yandex.Mail settings.
- Add the required contacts to the Phone contacts group.
- Open the Contacts app on your mobile device.
- Swipe the screen down to update the address book.
Searching for contacts
Use the integrated search, which supports direct and reverse transliteration of names and surnames, to quickly find a contact in your address book. For example, to search for your Russian friend “Ivan Petrov”, you can start typing his name using the Latin “I” or the Cyrillic “И”.
When composing a message, if you enter the first letters of a name, surname, or email addresses in the To field, you will see a list of matching contacts in pop-up messages. The recipients of mail you recently sent will be listed first.
Contact card
To view additional information about a contact, left-click the sender's address when reading messages.
You can add a phone number, date of birth, or comment by clicking Edit in the contact card.
From the contact card, you can also view all messages you received from this sender, create a rule for all similar messages, or send the address to the blacklist.
