You can make changes to your personal details, enter a different security question, specify alternative contact email addresses, or edit your list of phone numbers at any time.

How to create a secure password

A simple password is the greatest threat to your account. Common words (love, password) and any predictable letter combinations (qwerty, 123456) can be easily penetrated by password cracking programs. Please, do not ignore Yandex alerts warning that your password is too simple. Also, do not use publicly available information in your password, for example, your name, date of birth, or passport number.

To create a secure password, use:

  • both upper and lower case Latin letters;

  • numbers;

  • punctuation marks (` ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ = + [ ] { } ; " \ | , . < > / ?: symbols can be used, but ~ and ' cannot).

Attention! Never, under any circumstances, tell anyone your password! The Yandex staff will never ask for your password.

Special email addresses

If you do not want to provide your real email address when registering with online retailers, forums, or other resources, add "+" to your username and any word that helps you recognize the website. Your resulting address should be something like this: Messages sent to this address will be filtered into the Spam folder of your real mailbox.

You might find the special Yandex email address useful for repeated website registrations that require email addresses. For example, if you forgot the password to an account and cannot recover it.

Phone number instead of a username

The primary phone number linked to the account can be used as an additional username. You can do this either when linking your phone or afterwards on the Phone numbers page simply by checking use an additional username.

Each phone number may only be used as an additional username for one account. In this context, only one additional username can be attached to each account and only the primary phone number can be used as a username.

Let's say you have made +1 (564) 1234567 your additional username. Now you can:

  • Enter a phone number (without "+", "-", or spaces, for example, 15641234567) everywhere that requires your Yandex username.

    Exceptions include the access restoration page where it is necessary to enter the username you created during registration.

  • Use as your mail alias.

Features of mail with an additional login

To send a message to this type of alias address, you can provide the number in any form (without spaces) because Mail will recognize both and

The emails that you send to this address are forwarded to your Yandex.Mail box (if you created one). The address will stop working if you disable the additional login and unlink the number from the account.

If the phone number is transferred to a different person and the new owner connects it as an additional login, the email address will also be transferred to this owner. This can be prevented as follows:

  • If you lose the SIM-card with the phone number, get a new one from your mobile operator before the phone number is recycled.
  • If you have changed your phone number, disconnect the old number and connect a new one on the Telephone numbers page.
